The observation explains why malpractice suits are based on the failure to observe patient safety standards. Nurses and healthcare professionals should understand appropriate patient standards. They are expected to implement them despite their personal opinions or preferences.

I believe that the quality of care is determined by finding the right balance between the possibilities realized and the existing framework of norms and values. As a result, the quality of care not only depends on the attitude of the nurse but is also influenced by the organizational culture of the healthcare institution (Weston & Roberts, 2013). The observation is influenced by a realization that the quality of care is determined by multiple factors such as the standards established by the healthcare industry.

During my CRT clinical experience, I witnessed one example that provided an opportunity to evaluate the quality of care given in that instance. The case involved a teenage girl who had been admitted to the hospital after a failed abortion attempt. The patient was bleeding and in a lot of pain. When she arrived, the available nurses and doctors surrounded her. They administered preliminary medication to ease her pain and stop the bleeding. Then they wheeled her to an operating room where an attempt was made to save her life. The operation took about four hours. Although the doctors stated that she would not be able to have a child in the future, they had succeeded in saving her life.
The patient was traumatized by the whole experience. The nurse in charge tried to find information about her. She had been brought to the hospital by two female friends and a male friend. After informing her parents, the nurse called the police to report the incident. Another nurse tried to initiate a conversation with the patient when she could talk. The nurse could spend a lot of time talking to her. As time progressed, I could see that the patient was more open and smiling. The parents were asked to handle her with understanding and restraint to avoid undermining her recovery process.

The experience demonstrated that the nurses understood the importance of quality care. The first response was to ensure that the patient stopped bleeding. In addition, they aimed at easing her pain. Furthermore, the response was swift. One nurse found out all the relevant medical and personal information while the other nurses prepared her for surgery. The doctors and nurses also demonstrated a high level of collaboration. They discussed the patient and divided roles at the first rate.

In conclusion, the provision of quality medical care is an important part of the healing process. Besides leading to improved patient outcomes, it is responsible for customer satisfaction (Weston& Roberts, 2013). The key determinants of quality healthcare areas are the response to a situation, the level of adherence to values and norms, and the ability to demonstrate empathy towards the patient. However, the most important determinant is the ability of the healthcare professionals to help the patient return to optimal health. Read More
