Ludlum-2242 has includes gyratory switch for juggling between the R/hr and mR/hr ranges, a count reset knob and a fast/slow rejoinder switch.

In addition, the user needs to understand the working of the alarms system so as to take precautions not to damage the equipment. It is paramount for the user to wear protective gears owing to the health hazards that radiations cause.During When taking measurements, it is significant for the user to adjust the device accordingly so as to have the reading in desired units. In addition, the user needs to turn on the alarm component that activates the auditory and indicating lamp whenever the set-point is exceeded.

The alarm system will be operated by an acknowledgement switch that can also serve to adjust the rating that further widens the range. This precaution will prevent exceeding of the range where the maximum reading will not be the correct one. After taking these precautions, the user should make the reading and record the same accordingly.
