Regulating the Atmospheric Commons The article review in this paper is about the notion of global warming with respect to the views of Americans. The article is, “Is Global Warming Real? Most Americans Say Yes,” from nytimes.com, by Allison Kopicki. In the article, the Obama Administration is said to have announced regulations to reduce carbon emissions and control climate change. This happens with 67% of Americans believing that global warming is real with 54% of the population believing that the effects of global warming have already began.

The number of Americans believing in global warming has nevertheless declined since 2008 (Kopicki). Changes in opinion seem to be driven by temperature trends. Again, looking at the entire population’s opinion regarding the issue, Democrats (63%) seem to trust scientists more than the Republicans (47) do. Furthermore, the views by the Americans are either self-identified or political based (Kopicki). The article is generally well presented and tackles current issues regarding climate change and global warming.

From the article, it can be evident that most people’s opinions are guided by political movements. This aspect brings in the issue of political influence in peoples lives including their views regarding various issues affecting their lives. It could be true that political leaders could mislead people especially in situations where people would have a strong temperament following the opinion of other people or their leaders with ungrounded reasons about a given issue. This aspect explains why there is a difference between the number of Republicans and Democrats believing in scientists as well as in global warming (Kopicki).

I think that scientists are mostly right about their hypotheses, which makes global warming a real occurring phenomenon. The effects of global warming are as well happening today. This is why the majority of Americans believe that global warming is real and its effects have been realized. The president is even trying to do something about it. Works CitedKopicki, Allison.
