Design for Disability - Essay Example

Regarding the changes in expectations by organizations for disabled people and the increase who disabled and older age group, they start challenging that how the design of products and services should be if they are to meet the needs of the majority of people. Finally the main purpose of design for disability is to improve the quality of life by designing for disabled and also to help the disabled people find equipment solutions which can help them to get independent lives and also achieve better mobility and independence and to challenge barriers excluding them from living a full and valuable life at home or work and in their leisure time.

For example design different products and services for different people like designing an ergonomic computer keyboard for people with hand impairment, suitable door handle for mobility people or design of a three-wheel scooter for less able people. (Figures 1& 2) Design is a thinking process, when we design we doing something with our idea, with concepts rather than the numbers- for example, computers cannot do specific thing for us, though they can help in absolute tasks and also is the application creativity to find a good solution of a given problems and the communication of the others.

3 -The design is efficient, as it concerns the analysis of problems in our physical environment and the conversion of findings into usable solutions and also design as creative, as designers must control the expertise to create the binding. Visually impaired: Many people have some type of visual problem and can no longer see things well and some other types have the problem of reading the small print and they can be cured by using the glasses. Mobility: Mobility is a type of physical impairments which can cause by road accidents, diving accidents, sports injuries, industrial accidents, household falls, cancer, a tumor, cysts or viruses and are divided to Spinal Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Arthritis, and Brain Injury.
