Extract of sample "Background and Definition of Genre Simulation"

Simulation is the imitation of the real thing available, state of affairs or process. The act of simulating something generally entails representing certain key characteristic or behavior of selected physical or abstract system. Genre simulation is therefore the act of developing plays especially the games using inspirational movies, fiction, comic books and any other source of inspirations in mind which can bring the real life situation into place. It basically entails incorporating these inspirational elements into any selected but without actually copying them. A good example of the simulated game is the action or combat games. These kinds of games have been developed entirely using the elements of the real life situation and the states of affair, they are far much from being real but simply imitates the states of affair. Simulation genre are therefore created with the sole objective to put the game players in control of a certain state of an affair or any other activity while making it as reality as possible (Devitt, 2004). The most important thing to note is that the simulation genre only includes games that mainly focus on imitating the real life situation or activities. The most outstanding games creator known as Will Wright acknowledges the influence of social media like films, movies and a little computer tricks into his games creation .he released several games including animal crossing, commodore and many other hot games. His success into the world of simulation game genre became into light in early 2000s. Game genre can be broadly classified into several categories which include; managerial simulation, that puts the player into the position of a manager, construction simulation which basically assumes the role of construction and life simulation that purely deals with life in general (Coe, 1994). Genre prescription Simulation genre can be used at different points of life to bring up that imitation of the real life activities. Many movie actors have employed the simulation genre and incorporated its elements to come up with quality movies and games. Having taken that in mind, I would like to highlight and discuss several instances under which genre simulation is used. Let us take a look at simulation in communication satellite: Here many complex interacting parts and elements are brought together in a modern satellite communication system and put into use in moving vehicles (Devitt, 2004). This has led to the increase in broadband connectivity on moving vehicles over a few years and has found its full expression to both military and commercial applications. This system is more complex especially to administer hence the system administrators have increasingly turned to computers models of their systems to simulate real world operational conditions.( Bawarshi, 2001). The second instance is digital lifecycle. Here the simulation ideas are being integrated with CAD, CAM and CAE solutions and processes to attain proper genre simulation of high quality. This digital lifecycle is more inclined to providing a substantial ranging from direct cost issue and the reduced prototyping and a shorter time to market. City and urban simulation is a tool used by urban planners to properly understand how various cities are likely to come into existence as a result of various policy decisions. Metropolitan planning agencies and military bases for land transportation are the most known to make use of the city and urban simulation models to plan. These individuals by the help of the UrbanSim and LEAM models work tirelessly to transform the city buildings and to ensure that simulation is effected. Economic simulation; in economics, various government proposed policies such as fiscal policy , monetary policy are properly simulated in order to come up with the best out of the them and to prove their desirability (Jamieson, 1999). The administrators make use of mathematical model of the economy to determine or to establish the input of the simulation model and the actual output of the simulation. Later on the simulated values are used to establish the most desirable policy. Other situations in which we use simulation genre are in robotics. Robotic simulation makes it possible to reproducing the situations which cannot be actually created in the real world situation simply because of the cost, machine set up or uniqueness of the a resource. It also allows fast robot prototyping which saves time. Production simulation is another best way to ensure that there are a lot of improvements in the production systems. It makes it easy for the production to take place by eliminating any possible machine breakdown. Machine set ups, assembly time and any other stoppage during production. Therefore production simulation is used to ensure dynamic and stability in production. Automobile simulation; in this are of simulation, the simulator provide a concrete opportunity to reproduce the characteristic of a real vehicle in an effective environment .it produces the external factors and conditions with which the vehicle interacts enabling the driver to feel as if he is sitting in his own vehicle and not just a n educative issue. The driver therefore gains a lot of driving skills which in the future shall enable him to minimize road accidents. For companies this serves as the best way of training the driver thereby reducing training overheads (Miller & Carolyn,1984). Functions and features of genre One of the features of the genre is that a number of them are educative and cost cutting. Take example of the automobile simulation whereby the drivers using the reproduced vehicle to train and become the most expert drivers. This to the company is a fringe benefit since it allows for the reduction of the driver’s training expenses. Time saving is another most crucial feature of the simulation. In the production simulation with the introduction of the production simulators, production process is enhanced thereby improving the overall performance of the product in the market. Entertainment; this is another important feature of the simulation genre. For instance, computer simulation is very entertaining as one see the real life situations being reproduced with the help of a computer. It has become very interesting to see computer simulation being used as a modeling in many natural systems ion physics, chemistry and biology. And even in human system in economics and social sciences as well as in engineering (Fairclough, 2003). Interactive; this is a kind of physical simulation which uses human operators such as in a flight simulator. It is, interactive in then sense that it is human that uses most of these simulators. Again in automobile simulator it is human driver who uses the replicated vehicle. He interacts with the replicated vehicle until he become best in driving. Innovative; with the help of simulation genre, many inventions have come into existence. In health, simulators are applied to the research and developments tools for new therapies which in turn have made a great revolution in the health sector. Validly and reliability of then genre The extent to which results are consistent over time and an accurate representation of the subject under study is what is called reliability (Joppe, 2000). There are various types of reliability in a research which actually relates to the degree in which a research conducted repeatedly remains the same, the stability of the research over time and the similarities of the result over a period of time. Many scientific researchers have come out with different evidences supporting the reliability of the simulation genre over a long period of time. Holland (1998), asserts that the simulation genre is valid and reliable that students can be taught and trained using simulators. However he pointed out that a theoretical scientific model need not to bear any obvious resemblance to the thing being modeled. He gave an example of Newton’s equation being symbols confined to a sheet of paper and do not exactly look like planetary orbits and yet they mechanically model the physical reality better than any physical model of solar system. Issues to be considered if an organization adopts the interventions The organization must bear in mind that some of the simulators are expensive to administer and to install. So cost as a factor must be consider because not all organizations have the same financial structure. Other simulators need well trained personnel to run them due to their technicality, therefore the organization must chose the favorable simulator based on its capital, revenue and availability of the operators (Schauber, 1981). In conclusion, the organizations must know exactly that different simulators have different functions. For example, not all simulators are educative and not all are entertaining, this is a fact that must be well looked at before the adoption of any simulator. References Bawarshi A. (2001).
