Running head: Human trafficking for school Introduction Human trafficking awareness involves people from all walks of life coming together to say “no” to human trafficking. It takes several aspects like, concerts, campaigns, workshops, plays, among others. Activism has come in to emphasize the many issues which are associated with human trafficking hence the growing concern in many countries to stop it. The paper goes through the various issues where activism has been involved in trying to ensure that people are enlightened on how to take care of themselves (Bales 5). Save the children and youth movement-Raise awareness about human trafficking Save the children and youth is a movement in US and has an ongoing effort on gender based violence and raising public awareness about the plight of human trafficking victims in the rural communities. Plans are underway to organize campaigns every year. I intend to raise two national campaigns to raise awareness on human trafficking in communities as well as in schools, as the US is increasingly becoming a transits point for human traffickers. As an activist, I believe that the only important component in addressing human trafficking in schools is my massive involvement in massive awareness campaigns in order to prevent the trafficking of women and girls from our townships and rural communities. The key strategies in my plan consist of: Workshops Trainings and Public awareness campaigns Aims The aims of this campaign are to mobilize the communities and grass root social movements that combats slavery as well as human trafficking through community activism. My group has employed innovative solutions to every individual in fighting and linking violence against women and children with human trafficking in their own backyards across the country. The movement also addresses the challenges of trafficking in persons and in particular to secondary school pupils as well as young people and children who are assessed as belonging to groups that are of high risk of human trafficking. The campaign will help in informing these young children and youth about the problems associated with human trafficking and also teach them on how to take care of themselves. The campaign which I am intending to launch will have the name “they too have a voice” as women and children are trafficked for labor and sexual exploitations. There have been increased cases of domestic trafficking in US and more especially the young boys and girls are routinely trafficked from rural areas and taken to the urban areas where they are abused and exploited as domestic workers, they work in the fishing and mining industries, commercial agriculture not mentioning sexual exploitation. This rally invites local artists and schools in order to develop materials that address properly trafficking and applying it to the community and the local context (Nicalo 6). Posters, calendars, stickers, T-shits, brochures’ and caps shall also be distributed in all the major cities across the townships, and rural communities. Educational materials will also be developed in the local languages of the different communities and this will be done in order to foster a better comprehension of the subject matter within the different communities in the country. Some 10,000 minors in the United States are enslaved for labor, or even sexually abused with Florida been among the top three human trafficker’s destinations. You find that most of the victims go unnoticed by neighbors, teachers and even the police they encounter. Many families have lived in vain not knowing the whereabouts of their loved ones hence this is something which is traumatizing so much. We need to educate school districts, many activists and organizations have to come in to try and stop this growing menace in our country. As women activists’, we have to rise up and protect our children. My drive to becoming activists was fuelled by a story I read about one Allison Good, 32 years old. He was 5 years old the first time her parents sold her for money and drugs. “Men stuck needles in my arm and then tortured me” she narrated. “That went on for years”. At the age of 10, she tried to escape the abuse, when she got a job busing tables in the neighborhood pizzeria. Amazingly she slept at the basement where the owner’s son dealt drugs. One night a group of gangsters raped her after a whole night of drugs and booze. This experience drew her in to a life that once repulsed her. She eventually found herself trafficking younger girls in New York. When later she got married, she suffered a miscarriage then sank in to a deep depression (Elaine 3). I tend to believe that Goods story will inspire benefactors to support these campaigns and also to rehabilitate girls rescued from slavery. “Safe houses” for the victims need to be constructed to act as residents for these victims. This can only happen when people are moved by Goods story and try to have a society which is free from human trafficking. Save the children and youth movement is seeking donations as well as professional assistance to operate a local safe home, educate the members of the community on the challenges facing human trafficking so that we can have a peaceful society (Ann 4). My action on anti-human tracking will see a society free from human trafficking. My plan on campaigning against human trafficking will help many children and youth be saved from the arms of the roaming criminals in our streets. It is also my believe that many people will join me in trying to stop human trafficking. I also tend to believe that my activism will have spreading effects not only in Florida but also around the globe. I wish to see many women activists coming together and setting feminists’ strategies to help fight on our human rights since it’s only the children and women who are at high risk of human trafficking. My role as activist will never stop until I see a world free from human trafficking. I have plans to go around campaigning against human trafficking in many areas but I am planning to begin with primary and secondary schools (Elaine 3). Campaign-1: Youth and children in schools The campaign target both primary and secondary school pupils including the young people and children in our communities who are seen to belong to groups highly at risk of human trafficking. These are the people in our communities who most of the times do not have any say hence the growing concern to help and enlighten them on how to say no to human trafficking. The campaign will help in informing these children and youth about the great problems which are associated with human trafficking and also teach them on how to protect themselves when such issues come. The campaign will cover the following issues (Ann 4). Linking child abduction and gender based violence What can be done in order to prevent human trafficking in our children What can be done if the unthinkable happens What is human trafficking and how is it affecting our societies What are the root elements which are fuelling the demand for human trafficking and child abduction and how can we combat it. Human trafficking is not a problem in US alone but it is also seen in the third world countries. This issue has made many organizations as well as bodies to come together in order to try and stop this problem since most of the young children and women are at high risk. The department for justice, homeland security and labor is one of the bodies against human trafficking. It launched a nationwide human trafficking enhanced enforcement initiative which was designed in order to streamline federal criminal investigations and prosecutions of the human trafficking offenses. The government, civic and religious sectors, community leaders as well as NGOs are also other bodies which have had an impact in the growing human trafficking. Strategies have been put in place to prevent human trafficking as well as funding which has enabled these campaigns to go on effectively (Sheldon 24). Volunteers have also come on board and joined in these campaigns as well as funds many people give to help run these campaigns. Plans have also been made in order to host awareness events and fundraisers’ around the city to help people to understand the urgency of these issues. Our generation needs to be more aware of the magnitude at which human trafficking affects us since it is in our very own backyard. The churches have also played a great role educating people on the effects of human trafficking. You find that most of the churches host video shows about human trafficking while at the same time they bring in some speakers and a worship band in order to help in enlightening the members of our community (Sheldon 24). Conclusion Human trafficking has become a growing problem in most of our communities today. This has made fear in most of the people since young children and women have been abducted and enslaved. This issue has affected the performance of the families as well as the communities since their people have been moved from the rural areas and taken to the urban areas to work there.
