 The Importance of Security in a Corporate Building It was the 5th of November when I and my group mates organized a security teaching camp for the children in our community. We wanted to help children understand the importance of security in a corporate building. Awareness regarding other aspects that come under the security personal was also thoroughly discussed. Moreover, anyone who was willing to work as an intern was also welcomed. We distributed pamphlets and brochures containing a job description. Physical tests were carried out for the interns that were interested and those who passed it were called on for a question answer session with the interviewing committee that I suggested. Children of smaller ages were grouped together and were offered a number of games in which they had to help a building from various situations. I organized this event because I believe that everyone should step forward in order to help a corporate’ foundation to stay strong. The soul reason is that, no corporation has ever been successful if the security is not trustworthy and many at times, the job is degraded and not well understood. The response of everyone in the community was overwhelming as many small aged children got to spend some good quality time. For those who were in search of part time and contracted jobs also stepped forward and the corporate eventually received a massive degree of applications from the interested parties. To my surprise, young and energetic girls also came out of the blue and wanted to play their role in helping the corporate to which I belonged. It is then that I realized that gender does not really matter in a profession. Q2 Give an example of when you have followed a structured plan in order to achieve a goal It was an annual General Meeting held at our firm a few months back. All security personals were in extreme chaos. Therefore, I as the head of security, outlined a few tasks under each of my subordinates. Our aim was to provide the corporate with an event free of any mishaps and bad incidents that may have arose. A few of my trusted men were at first lined up with the entrance gate and only those who owned the corporate card were allowed inside the business premises. Second, the passage way was fully lined up with men of security to keep everyone under their watch and to guide all people to their respective places. At the entrance of the hall, a man checked for the passes once again in order to be sure that there has been no trespassing. The inside of the hall was under the women security. They helped each person to their respective seats and maintained the decorum of the committee. It is an honor to say that, we were successful in maintaining the committee in a proper method. Q3 Give an example of when you have managed more than one task at once Last year our corporate conducted a lunch to honor the managing committee of the firm. All security personals had to be there on time and participate actively as the number of people was a large one. I had the task of keeping the security in line at all times and that had been an easy job based on my experience. However, our maintenance department became the target of a fire that was caused due to the irresponsibility of their workers. As the head of security, it was my job to maintain the dinner antiquates and in addition to that, I had to deal with the fire that was caused without disturbing the dinner that had been ongoing. I called for the fire extinguisher at first and then helped everyone out of the maintenance department. To my luck, the fire team was there on time and no one was hurt. After the incident, the security officers were lined up to their respective places again. After the departure of the guests I outlined the details to the manager and told him exactly what had happened. He was relieved that none of his workers were hurt and so my decision proved to be successful. Q4 Give an example of when you have worked effectively to a specific time-frame. It was the inauguration of our new HR department and I had been granted a week off the previous day as a benefit to the employee of the month. I was not quite aware of what the situation was at the firm when the director called and said it was an emergency and that I would have to report to the premises at once. I went straight to the office as soon as I could and when I reached I saw that the security was not well organized and everyone was confused on things like where to enter, what pass to show and other basic things. The director told me that I have about half of an hour in approximation that I have to secure the whole premises in the right manner. The whole premises was successfully controlled although, discussing and explaining the jobs to the subordinates was a tough job. The manager was impressed on how I secured the whole premises in just half of an hour. As a result I was granted two days off in addition to the week that I had been given off. Q5 Give an example of when you had to seek guidance from someone else whilst working towards a goal I had been working at the firm for two years in the past and now it was the promotion incentive at the door step. I was not very well aware of how to deal with such an opportunity and therefore, I had to seek help from one of my mate who had gone through this process two years back. My goal was to take the manager in confidence that I am capable of handling a higher level of job. I took help from my friend and he talked the whole situation to the manager, explaining word to word of how and why I believe that I am capable of being promoted. There were two more hopefuls’ people with me in the race for a higher post and it will be fair enough to say that they were extremely serious and trustworthy as well. When I was called in for questioning I followed everything that my friend had instructed me to do. The manager actually was happy to have come across me in the board of promotion and due to the fact that I had provided him with enough guarantees and experiences, he decided that I deserve the promotion in respect to the two other men. It is then that I was officially made the head of security at the corporation. Q6 Give an example of when you have worked towards an organizations objectives or priorities? Our corporation was a highly responsible one and according to our manager, everyone had the right to present his interests and opinions regarding a matter. The goal of our corporation was to provide everyone with justice and integrity. All people part of the organization was held questionable and was welcomed if we wanted to help the company achieves its mission. It was in one such a case that an old woman needed help justifying that her son was not guilty of the charge that was put on him. As a matter of fact, the woman was an old friend’s mother and so I knew the boy pretty well myself. When the time came that they needed a witness on that boy I stepped forward and stated that it really was not possible that he could have performed that illegal act. The boy was let go as it was proven to be correct that the boy was not guilty. It was therefore, in my opinion a way through which I helped the business achieve its goal of providing justice to anyone who stepped forward. Q7 Give an example of when you have planned and organized difficult task? Organizing an event is a difficult task and cannot always be performed without the help of fellow subordinates. I have been organized a number of events and as a result handling or conducting a major event has never been a problem. However, I was once told to organize and plan the task of recruiting a security personal that would be accompanying me in everything from the day he is hired. It was a difficult task for me as I was a security head and had no experience in hiring someone. I decided to plan everything throughout and therefore, I went through the applications and then contacted the person I thought was the best for the tasks that are needed to perform. The job description and was made and sent to every one of the candidates that had given the applications. After that, I interviewed him in person and let him meet the manager to make him feel welcomed by the organization. After that, all jobs and responsibilities were outlined clearly that is, things like the opening time and the closing time of the company were made clear. The person was accepted by the manager for me to be working with and therefore, the task that was conducted was successful and he was hired. My efforts over this different and completely out of the way task that was given to me was done without any bad influences. Q8 Give me an example of when you have sought advice from others whilst carrying out a difficult work -related task? The biggest challenge for almost all the companies is the protection and security of the employees within the company. One of the security related problem for which I had to seek advice from someone else was regarding the inadequate coordination related to the security of the employee within the company. The solution offered to me by the friend was to appoint responsible and dedicated persons who possess sufficient authority so as to coordinate and implement suitable security measures in all the relevant departments of the company. Further, the fact that the procedures which ensure safety and security of the goods in case of certain types of absence of the assigned staff or in case of holidays. Another aspect of the issue I faced was that employees majorly need support and safety from fellow employees rather than the external threats. The idea of employee violence within the workplace seems to be startling prospect for the company. This is particular due to the fact that it can be hard to identify in advance and prevent the disaster. These mentioned issues not only required management of personnel but also human resources so as to exercise discretion along with vigilance while dealing with the employee. The adequate safety and security awareness within all relevant departments of the company is vital. It is important that the risk and self assessment is carried out on regular basis and is updated as well as documented. Adding further, the relevant risk is catered by corrective measures and preventive.
