The government armed forces responded violently claiming many lives. The people gradually moved from being mere protestors to armed rebels. The conflict gave rise to several opposition groups, the first being the Free Syrian Army in 2011, and in 2013, the Islamic Front was formed. Hezbollah, on the other side, supported the Syrian army. By July 2014 the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant was the major opposition force for it controlled more than a third of Syria hence most of oil production (The Islamist Revolution, 2009). The conflicts have led to many massacres, many have been left poor, destruction of cultural heritage, humanitarian disaster, and more than 6 million Syrians are refugees in neighboring Arabic countries like Lebanon and even Egypt (Jeremy, 2014).

The international community and humanitarian agencies are concerned over the Syrian crisis that has jeopardized social, economic, and political progressions in the middle-east; however, pacifying the region remains a baffling dilemma. ExplanationNoteworthy, the phenomenon in Syria is not ripe for simple elucidations. Apparently, the Syrian crisis is perceived to have been fueled by ethnic conflicts where minorities and majorities are fighting for power, Syria’s geographical position which became the center of attention for different superpowers, religious conflicts, media censoring and propaganda and interference from the international community (Jeremy, 2014).

Among these factors, the U.S can intervene and resolve the ethnic conflict through policy formulation and implementation. AnalysisSyria is a cradle land of 3 monotheistic religions; Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Judaism and Christianity were born within the country while Islam just found its way into the country. The existence of these religions cratered animosity as each strived to have a greater following and dominance of important resources. Prior to 1970, when the political situation took a melodramatic turn, minority groups including Christians, Kurds, Druze, and Alawites had been cooperating with majority Sunnis to liberate Syria from foreign occupation.
