Lack of parking in ASU campus Parking issue on ASU campus has been a major problem for the and visitors for the long period of time. The parking problem within the campus has led many students to miss some of their lectures while struggling to ensure safety and space for their vehicles. However, there is a need for the campus to solve the ever rising problem of car parking. There should be more parking spaces within the institution to enable students to save their time of lectures. Some of the problems contributing to the crisis of car parking on ASU campus are as follows; I. High cost of fee payment Parking in ASU has been a night mare for a very long period of time. First of all the parking fee charged by the university is high and beyond the reach of some students and visitors to ASU. Solution Students park outside the university premises in order to reduce the problem of congestion and high parking fee. They park at a distance of 15 minutes to 1hour’s walk to campus. Some of the students are now forced not to come with their vehicles to school. We should therefore discuss the matter with the administration to reduce the cost of charges for fee payment of parking. Different plans have been laid down to solve fee payment of the vehicle. Generally, the students of ASU should not be involved in paying the parking fee. The university authority has tried to solve the problem through instituting fines on those who fail to pay the parking fee, putting up more buildings and shades for parking. Statement and justification of the problem I think that there is no need for raising fee payment for parking to the students of the ASU since the university should cater for their issues. Parking the vehicles outside the campus compound is not safe for parking since it is risky (Todd Web). I therefore, wish that the institution should reduce payment fees to the students than to the visitors. However, there is no need for the campus students to pay for the parking fee since they are entitled to use the campus resources simply because they pay the fee. III. Limited parking space The parking slots are not enough to accommodate all students’ vehicles. The university receives over 2000 visitors a day. The parking space cannot accommodate all vehicles hoping to park on the campus. Solution ASU entered in to a contract with a private developer to begin constructing a hotel and a conference centre on Mill Avenue and University Drive (Arizona State University Web). This was done in order to create more space for students’ recreation and parking. Parking and Transit Services was established to curb the complex parking situation at the campus. The regulations are published and made law in all the premises of ASU for easy utilisation of the parking spaces (Yara Web). The university authority assigned the duty of providing parking areas on the campus, imposing fines and collection of parking fees and issuance of the licence to the director of Parking and Transit Services (Yara Web). Towing away vehicles which broke the rules and regulations established was one of the rules enforced. The campus authority should encouraged students to use buses or scooters and motorcycles in the areas not designated for parking to cut on the amount of space consumed and reduction of dangerous fumes at the campus. The parking lot 59 is rarely used for daily ASU parking, so the university does not need to plan on replacing it, said Olsen one of the employees at ASU (Sunnucks Web). Olsen added Mill Avenue and University Drive are more fully subscribed. Specialists in transportation should advise the university authorities how to go about the transport problem. Transportation specialists should work together with other specialists to come up with the best solution to ASU. The planning of the campus infrastructure should also be considered. For example more parking spaces should be created .it can be established in the basement, on roof tops and outside the campus premises. Statement and justification of the problem The fraternity of the ASU campus should ensure that there are free adequate spaces for parking to the students. The institution should ensure that student’s vehicles are safe and secured. Extra land should be added around the school compound mainly for parking purposes. Due to the limited space for parking, the students need to come to school with bicycles leaving space for only those coming from far spaces for parking vehicles. By following this, the rate for the coming visitors who may offer help to the ongoing crisis of the campus parking problem may get solved (Sunnucks Web). The campus should therefore, encourage students who stay near the campus to go to university by foot, use motorcycles, scooters and bicycles to reduce increase space for parking and reduce time wasting for lectures. The campus on the other hand should not design parking of both visitors and students at one place. Students are of parking should be different from other people parking areas. IV. Increase in population The increase in human population in most campuses globally has resulted to many issues that need attention from the school top officials and the government. The increase in population has led to increase in number of students joining the campus of ASU campus. With the increased number of the population of the students in the campus, there is also an increase in number of the students owning vehicles than before. Solution The rate of intake during the admission should be decreased in order for the campus to admit the number of students they can cater for well. The campus should also find other places to construct their campus branches offering same services like of the main campus. ASU campus affiliates will solve the issue of over-population within the compass creating more space for other students for parking. More parking areas should also be constructed to accommodate more vehicles. Statement and justification of the problem Due to the increased level of population in school in relation to parking crisis in ASU campus, there is a need for the campus to advice the students to live around the school to reduce the cost of travelling and parking charges. On the other hand, I suggest that the campus of ASU should build more accommodation rooms for students who live far away from school to reduce cases of car parking since they will be just living around the school where there will be no need to come with personal vehicles (Pete Web). However, the administration should also consider the rate of intake to control the population level of students within the campus. Additionally, there should be no authorised person to involve within the school compound with personal vehicle filling the space of parking to others yet not entitled to. V. Poor planning and construction of the campus The whole campus should be re-planned in order to put in place the state of the art technology easily. The technological level of construction to the buildings which had no parking basements should be enabled to have them. Solutions Taking into consideration the large amount of cash required for its construction, the university should call upon the government to assist in funding the university. All the high amounts of money collected from the students and the visitors should be used to construct high technological buildings with basement parking. Secondly, the university should look for sponsors to foot the expense of building the extra parking slots. Moreover, specialists should plan how all vehicles should be packed. Those that do not follow the rules should be clamped and towed away and fined heavily. The buildings in the campus should be design in a manner that they are at one point leaving enough space for the parking bays. The government should add extra land for the university in order to get more space for construction purposes. The campus of ASU needs to stop day traffic by using two control gates to reduce the number of vehicles driving through. Statement and justification of the problem I wish that the construction engineers given the chance to build the structures within the campus should have well design plans for various buildings (Pete Web). All buildings should have an underground basement mainly for parking purposes for the students in every faculty. Underground parking is secure for both car owners and to the vehicles due to the cool nature of various basements. However, I suggest that all buildings without underground basements should be reconstructed to have the basement for parking for students. The campus should also build upwards and add parking garages to combat the lack of space. I suggest that all parking should be done at the edges to isolate traffic flow around the campus where the parking slots are situated. General opposing view The students of ASU campus should stop coming to school with their personal vehicles to leave enough space for parking to the visitors. However, this can be met by passing a rule to the students to leave their vehicles behind while coming to school. Only bicycle parking space for students will be provided. Conclusion Despite the fact that parking problem for vehicle has been a major problem in most areas, there should be well designed strategies to cub the problem both by the people involved and the government. The outlaid strategies should be ensured that they are operating at all time to reduce time wastage to the majority due to the problem of car parking. Works Cited “Arizona State University”.
