Extract of sample "According to Carl Segan Why We Are Star Stuff"

Carl Sagan calls the phenomenon of the great star explosion ‘Big Bang’ which happened as the star went supernova and spewed numerous atomic components into the immeasurable surrounding space. Furthermore, the subsequent explosions continue in the universe and stars are still blowing off large quantities of organic and metallic compounds into space. These various elements not only form new planets and stars but also have incorporated into every living and non-living thing of the cosmos.

For instance, the essential elements of the human body such as the iron in our blood, the calcium in our teeth were once created in the core of the star just by fusion and were expelled to the outer space (Sagan, 2000, p.190). As Sagan rightly puts it, “we humans have seen the atoms which constitute all of nature and the forces that sculpted this work and others” (Sagan,). He further states that we indeed have a close association with stars, perhaps that has a long history of millions of years.

That is the reason why we can be called ‘star stuff’. Although his theory lacks proven facts and evidence, Sagan indeed intensified the concept of extraterrestrial life among modern scientists.
