Weapons Proliferation and Conflict The rapid increase in the number and the destructive capabilities of the weapons used in the war is a source of massive rage among humans. Proliferation increases the dose of lethalness of weapons that was certainly the case in the 20th century. Among other countries, US is the leader of the major proliferation during world wars. The extent of proliferation is depicted beautifully in the movie of Barefoot Gen. This is based on the novel of an artist Keiji Nazakawa.

It is an animated film showing the fight and struggle of a family in Japan against the attacks of US in World War II. The patriarch of the family had contrasting views to the government in context of war. As a result, the government punishes the family by depriving them with the basic facilities and luxuries of life. The hardships of the family are put into perspective by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima by Allied forces of USA. The central character of the movie was the six years old son named as Gen.

He spent his whole life seeing warfare in Japan. He and his mom are the witnesses of the horrors created by the atomic bombings. Hiroshima is completely destroyed courtesy the use of deadly weapons. US is the only country to use the nuclear weapons in the war. Gen realistically depicts the feelings of people on the morning of attacks on Hiroshima in 1945.
