?Business Mr Jacques Charbit Director of Corporate Communications Veolia Environnment GPO Box XYZ Pyrmont NSW April 13, Mr XYZ Executive of the Local Network PO Box XYZ Dear Mr XYZ This letter contains the recommendations towards the Local Network to encourage compliance with Global Compact Principle 1 which states, “Businesses Should Support and Respect the Protection of Internationally Proclaimed Human Rights” and Principle 7, which states “Businesses Should Support A Precautionary Approach to Environmental Challenges”. Veolia Environnement has always looked to support and maintain the Global Compact ten principles provided by United Nations. Veolia Environnement has maintained good environmental performance since 2002. It’s EMS (Environmental Management System) deals with various environmental issues. Veolia Water has developed many strategies to deal with environmental issues. Veolia Water has prepared innovative systems such as wireless meter reading which can monitor the water consumption and control the wastage of water. The good performance of Veolia Environment ensures that it is well positioned towards making recommendations to Local Network (Howard & Mas 2005). Veolia Environnement has played an active role in fighting against the GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emission and has successfully reduced the direct emission. Veolia Environnement converts fossil energy into thermal energy. Veolia Environnement is striving to improve efficiency of energy facilities. It has developed waste to energy process and decreased usage consumption. It has evaluated the design of system to recover energy in electric buses and tramways. The company created modeling tool which enumerates the air renewal rate in a refrigerating warehouse and also can regulate cold air generation according to the requirement. Veolia Environnement had developed projects to improve the maintenance of water supply systems that can prevent the leakage of water and also reduce the energy consumption related with excess–production of drinking water. In the year 2006, Veolia Environnement developed a custom-built ‘Pilot Biomass Boiler’. The main aim of this machine is to evaluate the energy and environmental relevance of different bio fuels. The ‘Pilot Biomass Boiler’ has the capacity of producing warm water for approximately 40 families. The local network can be benefitted by various solution of Veolia Environment regarding drinking water and GHG emission (Veolia Environnment Research & Development 2008). Veolia Environnement is the only company which can deal with solid as well as liquid, hazardous and non hazardous waste. It offers effective solution for collection of waste, treatment and recovery. It services produce electricity and heat from non–recyclable waste. Its energy recovery plants and landfills can produce renewable energy which can decrease the requirement of fossil fuel for producing electricity. Over the years, Veolia Environnement developed ‘new solutions’ in order to produce bio–energy and biogas which can be generated by waste fermentation. Veolia can also transform and recycle the cooking oil into bio fuel which can be used as industrial production. The biogas which is derived from waste can fulfill the energy need of people and industry. Veolia can provide energy through removal of waste in local networks which can fulfill the energy needs as well as purify the environment through decreasing the waste (Veolia Environnement Communication Department 2009). Veolia Environnement’s wastewater treatment focuses on to evade water contagion, combat the deterioration in ecological balances and meet the requirement of fresh water (Veolia Water 2010). Veolia Water recycles the wastewater from sewage plants. It supports as well as produces and operates the widest possible range of water solution for people needs. Veolia’s recycling of water involves elucidation, bio cure, filtration, membrane, disinfection, and wastewater recovery installation (Veolia Water 2010). Veolia Environnement preserves biodiversity and decreases environmental pollution. The company focuses on wastewater and waste management by reducing emission of CO2 and by cutting pollution caused by private vehicles through development of effective transport solution (Veolia Environnement 2011). Veolia Transport developed many unique solutions to counteract the limited energy resources. Besides preserving energy resources Veolia environment recycles secondary raw material such as paper, cardboard, wood, glass, plastic and metals (Veolia Environnement 2011). The recommendations are: 1. Veolia Environment can develop measures to protect environment and natural resources. a. Veolia can recycle waste water and meet the excess requirement of drinking water needs of people. b. Veolia can produce electricity from bio gas and bio energy which can preserve natural resources. 2. Veolia Environment can prevent any disputes and maintain harmony in organization. a. Veolia Environnment can provide training about maintaining good relationship with both employer and employees which can reduce the conflict in organization. b. Veolia Environnment can develop principles regarding human rights and strictly maintain the rules and regulations. Veolia Environnment experienced bad record in regard to environmental issues. In the year 2003, Veolia Environnement’s waste management was ordered to provide fine of 100,000 Euro for damaging of 3500 hectares scrubland by fire (Chandra, Girard, and Puscas 2005). The collective agreements have increased in Veolia Environnment in the year 2009 than 2008. The collective agreements were related to mainly compensation and employee relation (Veolia Environnement 2011). Veolia Environnement operates business in many countries. Veolia conducts their business in accordance with national standards, recommendations of international organization and provides attention to environmental protection. Every employee of Veolia Environnement must conform with the code of conduct which is related to the business (Veolia Environnement 2011). Veolia Environment performs its responsibility about human and labor rights. Veolia Environnement created “Ethics, Belief and Responsibility” program that is relevant for everyone. This program is destined for the company labor and work practices (sanofi-aventis 2011). Veolia Environnement has formed Ethics Committee in the year 2004 to ensure the application of best practices with regard to technical, financial, environmental, social and human related issues. Veolia Environnement had formed set of standards to perform social responsibility. The company monitors and manages its human resources by using a 200 measurement methods in over 74 countries (Veolia Environnement 2011). Veolia implements active human resources policies for professional skill development, job mobility and career development. The company also arranges education towards increasing employees’ self-sufficiency, competence and personal responsibility. Safety is Veolia Environment’s key priority. Veolia develops workplace security, prevents accidental damages and preserves responsiveness to health concerns. Veolia Environnement provides instruction and procedures to avert risk by improving health as well as safety condition in the workplace. Veolia Environnement has invested in the research regarding health risk and over six hundred employees are working in it. Their research includes observing the efficacy of technology and developing good risk deterrence methods. Veolia Environnment can provide training and job to the local networks which can help many local families (Veolia Environnement 2011). The accident frequency of Veolia Environnement had decreased in 2009. Veolia provides their stakeholders accurate and realistic information in order to make them aware about any proposal and its benefits. The company supports their stakeholders’ feedbacks and tries to work towards clear understanding of various issues or concerns provided by the stakeholders. Veolia coordinates directly with the stakeholders to deal with the issues or concerns (Veolia Environmental Services Australia 2010).
