The group dynamic was carried out in groups of four and was an important aspect of the learning process since it enables the members of the group to not only share ideas but also to develop their capacities of cooperation and teamwork. The overall process of the group work dynamic was also important in that it offered the learner’s a chance to air their views and opinions in a group setting which they may not have been able to air in a classroom setting. Since the groups were given carte blanche in the selection of the topic the topic of environmental conservation was opted for on the basis of consensus between all the members of the group.

The group members then opted to study a certain project of environmental conservation within the community and ways in which they could be improved (Hampton, 2010). The group opted for the issue of environmental conservation since this is an issue on which everyone had a perspective and could offer insights and suggestions on the discussion. The group also opted for a research project in town since most of the members of the group. Overall the exercise was intended at fostering a sense of teamwork in the completion of tasks.

Critical Analysis The instance of group activity led to the development of critical insights into the issue of environmental conservational as well as offering the group members an opportunity to develop their teamwork skills. The group dynamics were particularly exceptionally with few challenges since most of the people participated fully. This was a very satisfying group as compared to other groups I have participated in which were disorganized and were full of leadership wrangles. I attribute the great success of the group to the forming of operation rules and norming of the duties and responsibilities of every member of the group.

I believe the essence of a smooth working relationship among the members of the group stemmed from the delineation of roles from the first meeting and as such everyone knew what was expected of them and did it. Secondly all the members of the group were committed to the group objectives and everyone was always prepared to make a contribution towards the group objective through storming of ideas (Hampton, 2010). I believe that the smooth operation of the group was to a certain extent influenced by the democracy and respect which was practiced by every member of the group.

While the group activity was to a large extent smooth, there were a few challenges which are inevitable in any group activity. In the instance of the allocation of roles during the first meeting some roles were deemed by some members of the team as being harder or more complicated than others which led to negotiation on how this could be resolved. As a group leader I had to tackle this issue fast, since from my previous experience in other groups, perceptions of unfairness usually has a negative influence on cooperation between and among the group members.

According to the interdependence theory, cooperation usually results into positive interdependence. Positive interdependence and cooperative learning have been proved to be a predictor of higher rates of achievement in group and team situations (Hampton, 2010).
