Summary Instructions are very important when someone buys a new product that he has not been using before. The instruction manual provides steps on how to use and take good care of your new device. The instruction manual is always kept beside the product even after it has been read and should never be thrown away. As a group, we came up with instruction of using a toaster after a lot of research. The paper contains two parts, the instruction set and the memo. The instructions are organized into a step by step process on how to use the toaster. After the instructions, a memo has been written to let you know who can and who cannot use the instructions. The memo is summed up in one page and also contains the name of the group members. Instructions A toaster is an electronic gadget that allows you to cook, bake, and boil your food. It is important to have a toaster in your house but before buying a toaster one should decide on whether to buy a basic toaster or a toaster oven. A toaster oven can do more cooking than the ordinary toaster so if you do a lot of cooking then the toaster oven is ideal for you. If you want to cook for a crowd of people then a toaster oven will most likely suit you more than the normal oven. A toaster oven is not very different from the normal oven that is found in most of the kitchens. However it should be known that not all cooking can be done using the toaster oven and so some cooking should be done using the normal oven or cooker (David 8). The following are the safeguards for using a toaster oven Read all the instructions before using the toaster oven. Use handles and never touch hot surfaces of the toaster. NEVER place any part of the toaster in water or any liquid. This is to prevent anyone from any electric shock. Before cleaning and when not in use, unplug from outlet. Allow it to cool before handling and cleaning. Never use rice or pasta items on a toaster to avoid the risk of fire. DO NOT leave the toaster unattended during any time of the day. Do not use accessories that are not recommended by the manufacturer as this might lead to damage. NEVER use a damaged cord to operate a toaster. This can lead to electric shock Never use a toaster outdoor. Do not let a cord hang because it can be pulled down. DO NOT place near a boiler or hot gas. When using containers that are constructed of materials that is not metal, always take extreme caution. Take a lot of caution when removing the tray to avoid burns. Always unplug the unit when not in use. And never store any material other than those from the manufacture in the oven. NEVER place paper, cardboard, plastic and similar products in the oven. To avoid overheating of the oven, NEVER cover the oven with a metal foil. Never insert oversize foods and metal foils into the oven as this risky, and can cause electric shock. Never clean with a metal scouring pad as this may lead to pieces breaking and in the end leading to risk of electric shock. For baking and cooking use recommended temperatures. NEVER rest cooking utensils or baking dishes on the door glass. NEVER use metal pads for cleaning the oven. NEVER open the screws of the oven because you might get a shock. Only let a qualified electrician to open the inside of the oven. Always remember to keep the oven away from children. This can lead to serious burns. Keep this instruction manual near the toaster for future reference. Do not throw it away. Cord set instructions When you buy a toaster you are given a short wire cord to prevent the chances of tripping in the event where someone becomes tangled with the wire. However, longer cords are available but should be used with a lot of care. When one uses a longer cord, it is advisable that one checks the marked electrical rating and make sure that it is twice that of the toaster oven. The appliance always has a polarized plug and so this makes it safe especially for fitting it to a polarized end. If you try to fix it and it does not fit then contact a qualified electrician and never try to force it (David 34). A toaster makes toasting much easier and faster than before. The toaster also has an easy to clean interior that wipes the interior of the toaster clean at once. The toaster is also big enough to let you bake an entire meal once without having to split the number of cooking. Features and benefits of the toaster 1. Dialing the temperature; this allows one to select the temperature that he desires depending on whether he wants to bake or boil using the toaster. 2. There is also a function dial which allows one to select the cooking method whether it is baking, boiling or cooking. 3. There is also a toast shade that allows one to select the desired toast shade whether it is; light, medium or dark. 4. Start button; you can push the start button so as to start the baking process. 5. The stop button which allows one to push it whenever they want to end the toasting process. 6. The indicator light remains lit when the oven is functioning, so as to show you that the oven is functioning. 7. The easy clean interior that allows for the easy cleaning of the toaster interior. 8. Cheap and readily available 9. Saves a lot of time in cooking. Cooking with the toaster Before you begin using the toaster, follow the following general guidelines on how to use the toaster. Baking: this is the function that can be used the same way that you would use your normal kitchen. When baking using the toaster, remember to prepare what you want to bake then preheat the toaster for five to ten minutes. After you have done this, take the food and insert it into the toaster. Depending on the kind of food that you are making, use an appropriate temperature so that it starts baking. Timing is a very important factor here. So remember to set your time since baking highly depends on time. Once the time is up, remove the food but not with your bare hands, use a protective glove if necessary so as to avoid any chances of getting burnt (David 65). Boiling is mostly used for beef, pork, chicken and fish. Aluminum foil is not recommended for use in covering the food as it is dangerous when boiling fatty foods. When boiling your food, place it in the toaster and then start boiling. Caution should however be taken that you don’t get burnt because of the steam that comes out. So use a protective glove. Remember just like baking, boiling also requires a lot of timing in order for the process to be successful. After the time has elapsed, remove the food gently and let the toaster cool. Wipe the inside with a wet cloth so that you can remove all the stains that might be left behind by the water that boiled and sprinkled out from the oven. Toasting: always have the rack in the rack position. This ensures even distribution of heat on the cooking foods. Take the bread and place sandwich it in the best way. Take it and place it in preheated toaster and allow it to be cook for sometime as you wait for some sweet aroma to come out of the toaster. Once you notice the aroma quickly remove the bread to prevent it from overheating. This ensures that the bread comes out well and does not overcook. Remember timing is a very important factor here too and should be looked into or the food might be a mess. Usage and care of the oven Always remember to unwind the power cord when using the oven and plug the power onto the wall socket. During boiling the following should be done. Add ¼ cup of water into the broiling pan. This will reduce the sizzling and splattering. You should note that there are two positions in the drip tray to allow for the boiling of a variety of foods which are thick. When broiling, remember to set temperatures and functions to broil. Heat the oven for about 5 minutes with its doors closed and allow for broiling pan in using a glove. To stop broiling, just dial the turn off button. Remember to keep the toaster away from the reach of children. If children are able to touch the toaster especially the wires then they might get serious burns. When baking, turn the dial to bake position, and then set the temperature to the desired temperature so as to reach the desired temperature. The indicator light will turn on to show that the oven is working. Always remember to preheat the oven for 5 min before using it. The importance of preheating is that the food comes into the toaster when it is already hot therefore making it to be ready in just a few minutes. If the food is put before the preheating then it will take a lot of time before being ready. Toasting: make sure that the oven rack is in the right position, centre two items on the rack if you are toasting two items at the same time. If the items are more than two then make sure that they are evenly spaced to allow heat to pass through them well. Maintenance and cleaning Before you start cleaning, always remember to leave the oven to cool completely before you start cleaning. Below are the steps that should be followed when cleaning and maintain an oven. 1. Unplug the oven from the socket before you start the cleaning process. 2. Wipe the inner sides of the oven with a clean cloth and make sure that you dry it thoroughly. 3. NEVER use corrosive or abrasive products to clean the inner walls of the oven. 4. To discard crumbs, slide the crumb tray and discard the crumb away. 5. Use the dish washer to wash the wire rack, the boiling pan, and the drip tray. 6. NEVER the outside of the oven with the cord when cleaning the oven to prevent any shock. It is important to always clean your oven after cooking especially if you have cooked greasy food. This ensures that the oven does not keep dirt that cannot be removed with time. It is very important that one should keep in mind that toasters contain a high resistance coil inside it and therefore it consumes a lot of electric energy. One should therefore minimize the usage of the toaster as it can lead to high power bills. This should not however mean that you should not enjoy your toasted bread every day. Memo Who are the users? Any person who has hands, good vision and is mentally okay can use a toaster as long as he/she takes some time to learn how to use the toaster therefore the instructions that are here are meant for anyone who has the knowledge. However, care should be taken for those people who have poor vision and those who are mentally impaired when handling the oven. If care is not taken then they might end up getting burnt and also causing more damage such as fire. To avoid this, it is advisable that a third party be present whenever they are using the oven. Prior knowledge that is required before using the toaster One has to have the basic knowledge on how to operate electronics. Such knowledge includes; knowing how to plug the electrical appliance is one of the requirements that someone needs in order to know how to plug in the device into the socket so that no electrical shock is caused. It is also necessary that before someone is able to use these instructions, they should have some knowledge in English. This means that unless these instructions are translated to another language, the only person who can use it must know the English language well. Importance of the instructions The instructions are very important in that it enables one to know how to use the toaster in case they do not know how to use one. The instructions are also important because they provide the dos and the don’ts. This informs the user on what they should do and what they should not do at all. So it is very important for everyone to read the instructions before they use the toaster. The instruction should include Guidelines on how to use and maintain the toaster What should be done and what should never be done with a toaster The picture of the toaster and where the knobs are located on the toaster The instructions will be used in homes by those who cook as well as in other places where cooking is done using toasters. The instructions can also be used in schools to teach students on how to use the toaster. This will be a good idea since the students would be forced to know how to use the toaster and so they will take care the next time that they use the toaster. These instructions can be kept for ages and they will still have the same importance that it has today as long as the toaster still exists. The instruction can be used at any time provided that one has the manual. However the best time to use it is when you buy a toaster and you don’t know how to use it. You can also use it when you are about to cook then you realize that there is a concept that you can’t remember. So the instructions should always be kept close to the toaster so that it can always be used whenever there is any information that needs to be sought and known.
