Cultural Perspective of Chile: In the Context of Doing Business Cultural Perspective of Chile: In the Context of Doing BusinessBusiness Potential Chile’s business potential is characterized by its favorable business environment. This environment fosters a market-friendly format, an active government intervention, and established international business relationships. The Central Intelligence Agency’s World Factbook (2011) indicated Chile’s edge as inclusive of its “high level of foreign trade,” “strong financial institutions and sound policy,” a government-strengthened economic reform, “bilateral or regional trade agreements,” as well as its “free trade agreement with the US” (Economy overview section).

Cultural Perspective The Chilean business culture exemplifies an interpersonal-business relationship based on “personal, family, and company background,” centralized decision-making, and a straightforward manner (eDiplomat, n.d., Corporate culture section). Collectively, this culture entails a good reputation, familial orientation, and an expected blunt (but not rude) fashion in successfully establishing business links of supply and demand. Chile and US A significant similarity between US and Chilean business culture is its high appreciation in directness or straightforwardness.

This manner of doing business relies on accurate details and anticipate low discrepancy levels. Furthermore, this compatibility ensures the surpassing of any language or communication barrier expected of cross-cultural business relationships. Insights This cultural analysis gave me a better picture of the Chilean perspective in the context of doing business. First, it exposed the favorable business environment of Chile; second, it introduced the country’s receptiveness to foreign trade; third, it provided business elements that matter most for its culture (e.g. personal relationship and directness); fourth, it illustrated a significant communication compatibility between US and Chile; and finally, it gave me an idea of how to establish business relationship in this country using the aforementioned cultural information.
