Transfer from Cal Poly Pomona to USC - Essay Example

Reasons for Transferring and ObjectivesMy main reason for seeking a transfer from Cal Poly Pomona to USC is change in career interest from plant science to civil engineering. My previous goal and interest in botany influenced my choice of Cal Poly Pomona because of the college’s established College of Agriculture with adequate facilities for the Plant Sciences program. Developing a deeper insight into the Plant Science program together with extensive consultations have however revealed a weak basis for my previous career choice and prompted my desire to change from the Plant Science program.

Lack of passion in agriculture and biology as subjects and redefined personal and professional goals that identify with civil engineering are therefore the immediate motivation into the desire to change my academic program and institution. While Cal Poly Pomona also offer civil engineering program, I prefer studying the course at USC because of its better facilities and staff that has earned it a better reputation among engineering colleges, being ranked better Cal Poly Pomona. This means that I shall develop greater potentials at USC than at Cal Poly Pomona, a factor that will enhance my long-term career and academic objectives.

My primary and short-term objective is to complete the civil engineering program with outstanding academic and technical potentials for a faster career establishment and career development path. I also plan to study civil engineering at graduate and postgraduate levels and therefore desire a strong foundation that USC promises than the Cal Poly Pomona does. The transfer will therefore help me pursue my academic and career goals with higher success potentials and I look forward to your kind consideration that will facilitate these objectives.
