Lifelong Pursuit of Personal and Intellectual Growth - Admission/Application Essay Example

It is only by increasing your understanding of the world around you that you are able to significantly to impact it. Some of the great entrepreneurs of the modern-day (Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and the late Steve Jobs, just to mention a few) all recognized this early on in their lives. These successful executives all realized the importance of continually learning on a daily basis. This is why they are remembered for being some of the greatest innovators of our time. Because of their vast wealth, they could have chosen to relax on a beach in a tropical country. However, these people understand that learning is a lifelong process. No matter how much they have already achieved, there is always more that they can do.

        I identify with this principle of always being a student because I love to learn about other cultures from traveling. Visiting a foreign country, where I would be forced to learn a new culture, is one of the greatest pleasures in life for me. It’s always a shock to find out that not everyone does things the way that you’re used to. Above all, culture shock means a new learning experience. Additionally, it can help to improve my social skills. Even if I did not travel overseas, I can gain great insight into this world simply by reading books and newspapers every day.
By doing this, I can look back in amazement at how much I have learned. Our rate of learning is truly extraordinary if you think about it.

        If you stop learning, then you stop expanding your creative potential. Everyone has to continually learn to survive in our society. I almost think of it as the survival of the fittest. Those who refuse to learn and adapt to their surroundings will be surpassed by those who place learning as the highest priority. For me, the pursuit of knowledge is not only a lifelong task but also my personal goal. I do not need anyone to tell me to learn because I am naturally inclined that way anyway. Nothing that anyone else could say would make me feel otherwise. The most important lesson that we could learn is to never stop asking questions and always remain a student.
