These companies provide energy solutions to replace conventional energy forms, solar, nuclear and wind energy being a popular choice due to convenience. The Government has also taken an active interest in this sector due to the gravity of the environmental threats currently facing the planet and thus the Government has committed itself to helping businesses in this sector develop successfully.

Their goal for 2020 is to achieve 15% of their total energy from renewable resources. Another reason why the Government is especially interested in the development of this sector is that it has generated great interest from foreign investors. In addition to the investment that this will bring into the UK, it will create a multitude of job opportunities. The UK however needs to improve its infrastructure to be able to deal with and reap the benefits of this investment. (The UK Renewable Energy Sectors, 2012).

Carbon emissions are expected to decrease by 60% by 2030 as well. (UK Future Energy Scenarios, 2011).

To research the renewable energy sector in the UK, a number of methods can be used and plans carried out. As an initial step, the annual All-Energy Exhibition and Conference should be visited. This will provide a comprehensive insight into the key players in this sector, their strong suits, and plans for the future. At the All-Energy 2012, a ‘trail’ system was introduced classifying exactly what was where. The trails included bio-energy, energy efficiency, hydropower, renewable heat, solar power, and numerous others. (All-Energy, 2012).

A second step would be to book appointments to talk to the chairpersons in the respective renewable energy organizations in nearby areas. These are the people who know the inner workings of the business side of this sector and the intricacies involving how this sector functions and what the current market demands are and what the plans for the future are. Along with information from these people, during this research questionnaires and surveys can be used, aimed at both the consumer and producer end of renewable energy in the UK to attain valuable feedback in current performance and improvements needed for the future.
