Application of Organizational Theory and Design Application of Organizational Theory and Design Role of corporate culture in improving organizations Corporate culture defines employees and other stakeholders’ perception of organizational workplace which further determines success of a firm based on a firm’s reputation, product quality as well as productivity. Success-oriented firms like IBM believe that core values-based culture is a double-digit as it helps business grow besides defining the role a company can and plays in a society hence pay much attention to develop a better culture which demonstrates a firm’s values and attitudes.

IBM integrates corporate citizenship as well as social responsibility and empowers employees to serve their communities alongside identification and acting upon new opportunities based on application of technology to societal challenges (Greenwald, 2008, p.111). Delighting customers is part of IBM’s corporate culture with managers’ role shifted from traditional controller to enabler, coordinating function shifted to dynamic linking from previous bureaucracy and, values shifted from efficiency to those aimed at firm’s growth and a further shift to conversation from commands making IBM to survive celebrating its 100th year.

Besides, IBM has reorganized into resilience termed as the only roadmap to enhancing customer’s power through getting amicable solution to salient clients’ challenges by finding unexpected ways of delighting their customers. Retail management is based on a working culture as customers evaluate organizations based on prevailing cultures. Corporate culture has rapidly changed and firms have to remain updated in order to survive stiffer competitions (Greenwald, 2008, p.123). Workers’ productivities are embedded on harmonious culture where employees feel motivated and being part of decision making process making workforce to put more efforts in assigned tasks translating into a firm’s growth.

Future of organizational designCollaborative community organizational design remains the future of organizational design currently being employed by firms. This is where firms collectively undertake opportunities in a global perspective and address challenges facing them in a collaborative way by recognizing that global markets have shared and common interests amongst competing firms. IBM has taken the lead to organize Blade.org as a typical example of a collaborative community design incorporating community of firms from Intel, IBM and six other firms with an aim of developing and adopting open blade server platform (Jones, 2013, p.133). Besides, IBM also aims at inclusion of its global partners to its Research and Development Strategy.

IBM is currently incorporating countries into collaborative solution development strategy which is projected to presenting the best platform to address global climate change and income disparity. Collaborative Community design helps firms rid out barriers to effective multi-firm collaboration such as legal, psychological and institutional barriers. Establishing collaborative community design is vital to global economy to a greater extent as the future is dependent on successful pursuant of common objectives sustainably establishing global commons.

Firms start implementing collaborative community design by first internally coming up with internal collaboration before expanding externally (Jones, 2013, p.156). IBM remains a typical example of a firm that has adopted this design upon its realization of common global interest to its partner firms on global markets as global resources have universally kept nations and societies harmoniously and their subsequent application of communities values as well as collaborative capabilities have led to maximum exploration of such benefits.

Firms are encouraged to develop a collaborative culture both internally and externally to fully benefit from the shared common global resources as utilized by IBM.Reference Greenwald, H. P. (2008).
