Running Head: CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE ID Lecturer Cultural Diversity in the Workplace Multiculturalism is a positive aspect which has been detailed upon within my workplace settings. Since having people from different cultures is the norm now, the organizational settings have started to understand that these must be encouraged. My workplace has a very positive mindset as far as people belonging to different cultures and ideological settings are concerned. In fact the organization has relaxed its rules in order to hire more and more people who are distinctive from one another. It is one of the most important steps taken by my organization in order to inculcate multiculturalism in the truest sense. Starting from the top management, multiculturalism is encouraged to let the employees know that they are valued for their work and nothing else. This shall allow them to understand how the organization appreciates their efforts and what goes into giving their best towards the sake of the business processes (Henninger, 1998). It will also tell them that their personal selves are not important and that they will never be marginalized on the basis of their skin color, cast or creed. What matters to the organization is pure professional indulgence towards work and nothing else would suffice. It is a positive aspect that any organization in this day and age can inculcate to its workers and employees to keep them motivated. The employees feel that they are being valued at the workplace when there are similar avenues for growth and development irrespective of their cultural background and settings. Presently, one can see that the employees are at their best possible motivational levels since they are doing something for which they are being acknowledged (Bryson, 2002). Their work domains are praised and whatever anomalies arise from time to time, are positively seen and given feedback upon by the top management entities. The top management therefore is doing its duty in a very positive way and there do not seem to be any form of negligence on its part at any stage. The role of the human resources management department within inculcating how multiculturalism can be the cornerstone of much success is an imperative one. This is because the employees have to follow the directives of the human resources management department. The rules and policies as outlined by this department are bound to comply by the employees. Within my organization, this department is doing its job to the maximum possible limits. It has conducted different workshops and trainings on a proactive basis to make sure that the employees do not feel left out. Also similar initiatives are undertaken from time to time through the notice boards that are placed at different corners of the office building. The role of the community as a whole is indeed a quintessential one. This is because its inmates will eventually form a vital part of the businesses which are spread all over the world. If these people know that they shall be welcomed by organizations irrespective of their cultural manifestations, it will contribute to a healthy society. Also the business enterprises will benefit as a result of the same which is a step in the right direction. Under such realms, it is always a good omen for the society’s elders to appreciate the undertakings of the organizations that keep each and every employee within its realms on a similar level. Such positive stories should be shared across the board so that more and more prospective employees can vie for the coveted positions within these organizations. The society is therefore answerable to the people who are from culturally distinctive backgrounds and especially the ones who fall under the aegis of a minority group. I believe that the role of the society is an important one because the organizations are only a realistic part of the society where they come from (Foulkes, 1995). If the society’s inmates do not believe in multiculturalism in its truest sense, then this shall mean immensely significant issues for the people at large. Also this will be documented in the form of people holding corners with one another, which at any stage is not an acceptable proposition. I opine that my organization does not buy such a theory and remains actively engaged at keeping people on the same wavelength. Therefore the society takes the brunt of many happenings which are not necessarily of its own making. If the business concerns draft their own policies and do not give respect to multiculturalism and similar domains, then this means that there are serious anomalies which need to be taken care of. For this paper, I interviewed an individual who hailed from Asia. He belonged to India and was a very vital part of the team within my organization. I asked him about the differential circumstances that he faced at work and was surprised to know that he was all at ease within the business regimes. He told me that people supported him for who he was and did not create a fuss when he did not understand their language. Since Indian culture is comparatively different from how values are viewed in the West, this individual had to go through a number of trainings to ensure that he stayed at par with the employees who were not Indians but belonged to the Western nations. As far as my personal analysis and insights on this topic are concerned, I believe this topic hits the nail on the head and is able to answer many questions under the multiculturalism tenets. I have explored it because I saw enough room for comprehending how things shape up within culturally different realms and how this has been a source of inspiration for many employees within varied organizations around the world. My personal thoughts on the paper are that multiculturalism is a grave topic that has been touched upon quite a few times during the recent years. I have also understood that different cultures essentially bring with them concerns of greater magnitude since many regions are working within a single platform. Also it calls for rationality to prevail which might be a difficult thing to exercise within a workplace setting. I perceive objectivity to be held in a supreme fashion since multiculturalism gives rise to areas which have a great amount of energy and dynamism for the varied organizations all over the world. I have contributed to the topic by finding details regarding multiculturalism and how distinctive sets of people have viewed it within their respective zones. This has given me the room to determine where employees feel de-motivated and what can be done to make a much needed difference. Also it has made me realize how the top management can act in unison with the human resources management department to create an atmosphere of impartiality which will encourage participation of employees from varied cultures and backgrounds. I have a very positive outlook of my organization because multiculturalism is indeed one of the most significant pointers that a business enterprise can teach and adopt for its own betterment (Barter, 1996). My organization is doing all that it could in the name of encouraging multiculturalism. It has even been appreciated on different platforms over the years and has come out as a benchmark example for many other business concerns within the relevant domains of the society. I feel that the employees who work alongside me as well as my own self are supremely confident of our abilities because our organization takes us in the highest possible stead. I am certain that the route which my organization has undertaken is based on moral and ethical principles and shall be the basis of achieving many milestones in the times to follow. In the end, I am satisfied in suggesting that my organization has kept its doors open for accepting multiculturalism as much as possible. This is the reason why it has made a name for its own self within the related industrial settings. I am confident that with the understanding reached upon in terms of culturally viable situations and circumstances, the organization shall continue to grow and develop in the coming times. For now, there is a need to understand what more optimism can be encouraged so that the company progresses even further. If this keeps on happening, multiculturalism will be manifested in the best possible way, all said and done. References Barter, R. (1996). Multiculturalism and libraries: and still the battle rages.
