Running Header: IQ Corporation Network Planning and Design Your name: Course name: Professors’ name: Date Gather and document the network requirements from the client As per the requirements of the IQ Corporation, the network requirements are set out and out network consultant group will be tasked with the design of the IQ Corporation network. The current network of the company is as follows. Head office (with senior management such as administrative staff, sales staff etc.) - Mawson Lakes, Adelaide Two sales presentation room (25 PCs each) – Mawson lakes, Adelaide Sales office (with sale staff and administrative staff) Second location is Mt Gambier There are sales staff, administrative and printer resources. The location demands less in terms of network resources. What the company need (main thing): Whole network in company (restricting of the network to increase usage and allow future network expansion) Internal LAN, VLAN solution for each group of users Internet (every employee can use internet) Wireless ability (wireless LAN and wireless internet) VoIP solutions and hence the need for IP Phone (seriously considering) The Network Consultant Group will undertake the following task. With keen consideration of the IQ Corporation existing network infrastructure, there are some requirements that will be added in order to ensure high performance of the network and also provide room for expansion. The requirements are identified as outlined below The local area network (LAN) needs to be enhanced in order to reach speeds of up to 1Ghz, this can be achieved through fiber connectivity and enhanced layer 3 switches. VLAN is required in order to segment (separate users) without adding network resources like routers or layer 3 and 2 switches and also to ensure that the network is secured from both internal and external intrusion. The VLAN will use gateway IP address and also allocated a VLAN ID for identification purposes. The IQ Corporation needs wireless connectivity in 2nd and 3rd floor respectively; this will require addition of access points, repeaters as well as WLAN controllers into the existing network. The wired network will provide access to intranet resources as well as offer internet connectivity, for the two floors, Wireless network will also offer additional connectivity to the internet. The WLAN will be secured through algorithms and authentication schemes (SZIGETI & Hatting 2005, p.23). The IQ Corporation is also considering increasing voice services through VoIP, this will be done using the MDF/IDF connections and every floor (with) respect to number of users, Cisco IP phones will be added to their working area. IP VLSM subnetting will be employed in the following manner, the servers will be offered a range of IP addresses with their subnet, and each server will be assigned a static IP address while the users and printers will have dynamic IP addresses in both locations. This will save the number of IPs required within the subnet as well as maximize the network resources in that particular location while preventing IP conflict (SZIGETI & Hatting 2005, p.23). Phase 2 – Proposed Logical Diagram The network logical topology outlines the three major levels of an organizational network, the WAN which is the connection to other networks via a router, the core level which is basically the switching levels and finally the access level where the users of the network resources are linked with Cat 5/6 cable to enable connectivity to the internet as well as the intranet resources (Mansfield & Antonakos 2009, p.231). Phase 3 –Proposed Physical Layer Design The Mawson Lakes physical topology above shows the main network plan which also incorporates the WLAN consideration in the 1st and 2nd floor respectively. The network also uses fiver cables for connectivity to the core layer 3 switches which connects to the users and MDF/IDF which provides the room for VoIP connections when installed. The router connects the Headquarters with the Mt Gambier branch and also provides the link to other networks as shown in the diagram above. In order to save the cost, one access point and a repeater as used in WLAN connection respectively (Hallberg 2009, p.47). This Mt Gambier network is less complex, it employs fiber cables to allow connection (fast speed), and the users are connected via a cat 5e Ethernet cable (100mbs/1Gbs) (Edwards & Bramante 2009, p.47) Head Office Floor 1 IDF/MDF/POP Equipment type Model No Qty No/Types Description Estimated cost ($) Switch (Layer 3) WS-C3750E 1 48PD-S Layer 3 Switch48 x 10/100/1000Base-T, 2 x Enterprise-class stackable and wiring closet switch which enhances deployment of secure applications and provides room for network expansion 2895 VoIP Handsets CP-7940G  55 7900 series - VoIP Telephone 7940 IP based phone for VoIP purposes 5500 Firewall Cisco ASA5505 2 BUN-K9 Firewall 10-User WAN Ports 1 & LAN Ports8 Protecting intrusion and filtering packets. 620 Patch Panels MPN 648 2 48port, Cat 6 Ethernet (RJ-45) For managing cables and distribution 80 Router Cisco 2911 2 2900 series USB:Interfaces/Ports: 3 x RJ-45 10/100/1000Base-T Network WAN Interfaces/Ports Copper and fibre GE, Digital signal processor (DSP). Labour cost will be US$30,000 for the network planning, designing and implementation. The main assumptions in this case are that the products will cost the same amount at the time of purchase while there will be no additional cost. The total budget will thus be US$57075, this is within the set budget of US$50,000- US$70,000.
