School involves an that has been set aside for teaching learners who are directed by the teachers. Putting up witheight lengthy hours every day in an old building that is full of children who are obnoxious with varied ages is not as easy as it may seem. Moreover, the increased and reoccurring homework, which follows each student, may increase a student’s hatred towards the school. In many ways, school may be frustrating and annoying having lots of energies going to the attainment of what is considered as good grades. Besides the many negative attributes of school, we still go to school. The main question that is evoked is why do we do school. In my own opinion, school is a vital tool. This is the reason why different parents pressurize their children to go to school and work hard. When a child misses school, he or she would miss out a crucial stage in his life. Therefore, besides the negative effects that are experienced whenever a child goes to school, a school has unquestionably increased benefits, as well. In attempts to gain insight concerning the relevance of a school, this paper explores the reason why we do school. It has been widely known that knowledge is considered as power. A school is a prime basis of knowledge being inserted to a child. School provides an opportunity for children to get knowledge on the different education fields, like people history, literature, politics, mathematics, among other fields. In getting this knowledge, an individual is in strong grounds of helping other individuals and society. For instance, I can calculate my taxes speedily and easily with the knowledge that I have gained from mathematics. Having better information, it would be easy for me to attract attention in a gathering through assuming an active pain in the discussion. School would pave a way to disillusionment. In this case, the schools gives me a chance to erase all beliefs that are wrong within my mind. It enables me to come up with a clear picture concerning the things around me thus making me be out of confusion concerning the aspects that I do learn. Therefore, school enhances cultural capital. In this respect, whatever one learns subconsciously, and things that are part of one’s everyday life are whatever matter in one’s life. The dominant culture would dominate different decisions of an individual. For example, one would decide his ways of dressing, talking, skills passed on from generation to generation. We go to school because a school is a ladder that for climbing to another level. Unless I finish my school education, I would not be able to secure an enrollment into a post secondary institution such as a university or college. A post secondary institution is normally significant in the attainment of one’s dreams. Having high education, I can get myself a well paying job thus be able to lead a better life. With no academic career, I would have a difficult time in making a living for myself. This is so because, with no career and education I may only be able to get low paying jobs or the black collar jobs that may fail to finance all my basic needs (Nakosteen 32). Apart from this, schools serve as elements of socialization. They enable an individual to socialize. When I attend a school, I will get an opportunity to come across new children of my age. Even as some of them may remain to be my classmates, some of them will certainly get close to me and become friends for a number of years in other instances for a lifetime. If I decide to waste a whole day at home doing nothing, I may fail to meet different people of my age thus leading to a lonely life. Socialization and meeting of other new persons would broaden my knowledge parameter. For one to lead a life considered socially good, it is prudent for such an individual to attend school. In this regard, a school enables a child to develop social constructions. This is a school of thought regarding the manner social phenomena is established, institutionalized, and made into different tradition. It determines how social phenomena is created in the social contexts. School would be able to make me be engrossed. Unless I am occupied with different tasks, having no work in the course of the day could actually be tiresome and monotonous. In this respect, I would prefer going school to sitting idle in a whole day. This will not only keep me active, but will also help me to learn different skills that would be useful in my lifetime. Even though, I may enjoy being unoccupied for some days or even a period of a month, if this continues for a long duration, life would be damn boring. Additionally, a school helps a child to have an overall development. Overall development of a child entails the emotional, physiological, and biological changes that characterize humans from the time of birth up to adolescence. For a society, it is vital for a child’s optimal development to be realized. For the realization of an optimal development, school is a tool which fosters cognitive, social, emotional, and language development of a child. A research conducted on the field of education reported that schools do facilitate the development of a child. This implies that, the idea of schools being associated with solving mathematical questions, learning history or poems alone, is to date an outdated idea (Makdisi 43). With modernity schools have become the initial stepping stone in a child’s life, in which he obtains more than mere learning. Aspects such as the development and refinement of hobbies, obtaining skills of multitasking, learning etiquette, and the establishment of socialization skills are some of the vital aspects that a school can equip a child. For instance, a school enhances cognitive development of a child. Cognitive development is the continuous and progressive growth of the memory, perception, imagination, reason, conception, and judgment. It can also be referred to as the intellectual counterpart of a child’s environmental adaptation. It involves the activities of the mental, information comprehending and the ability of organizing, remembering, acquiring, and knowledge utility. The acquired knowledge is used in solving problems and novel situations generalization. There are four stages of development under cognitive development. The first stage is the sensory, motor stage, formal stage, and pre operational stage. Pre operational stage is the second stage which occurs from two years to seven years (Ginsberg 25). In this period, a child may begin to attend preschool. This stage involves cognition and language development. Through school, a child would establish vocabularies and skills of language giving room for the complex play development. A child would also be able to gather the utility of reflected and social language in storytelling. In the progress of the stage, the school would help a child to start understanding the views of others, share opinions, and come with a sense through socialization. Such a child would be able to think concerning events that are absent. In this respect, school would help a child to go through this stage without any difficult. In the third stage of cognitive development (from seven to eleven years), school would enable a child to develop abstract thought and potential of making judgments that are rational. School would also help a child increase his accommodation. A school enables a child to obtain an optimal social-emotional development. This is a stage that is normally evaluated by teachers and psychologists in children. For effective communication, a child needs to have an interest in communicating with other children. This would be realized if a child attends school and socialize with other children. Language development is another aspect of development that a school cultivates in children. Whenever I attend a school, I get a chance of gathering many vocabularies through socialization with my classmates and through the teacher. These vocabularies would help in building my language. Staying at home limits my exposure thus making me have a limited number of vocabularies thus a poor language development. The environment and the building of a school are other aspects that may help me to understand the many critical components of the outside world. For instance, through school I would be able to learn the relevance of responsibility and work ethics. Without the school experience, it may be extremely depressing for me to endure some aspects in the real world such as time management. Time management and discipline are vital elements that are normally emphasized in school. In school, each child is give homework and assignments that not only evoke reason, but also teach learners how to manage their time. The school environment would increase a child’s acquisition of knowledge through the interpretation and observation of senses. Apart from this, a school is a historical notion of success. Whenever I go to school, my mind is always occupied with the thought of obtaining good grades. To date, the pressure of feeling worthy is increasing in a rapid manner. Every child has a feeling that for him to succeed in their life, they need to obtain good grades in school and get enrolled to universities. This attribution to children responsibilities and the arduous application of a child’s mind and physical energies to the completion of an activity or the attainment of a goal is whatever makes school be relevant tools in a child’s life. The social inscription of success, enables a child to accumulate symbolic capital in a variety of forms: economic, social, cultural, and symbolic capital. Success in school, therefore, determines a child’s success in his life (Kenneth 45). It is, therefore, evidenced that we do go to schools because of the ever ending advantage that we derive from the school. In schools, we are able to learn right behavior, respectful manners, hence becoming civilized. Schools are instrumental in developing our virtues and values. They motivate and cultivates us to be individuals who are mature, able to organize a future, and make correct decisions. In this respect, school equips us with insight to people's life hence learning from each experience. A nation’s future is safe whenever its citizens go through schools successfully (Dodge 45). This implies that whenever citizens go through schools, they end up getting jobs. This will improve the economy of a nation. Therefore, schools provide us with the needed skills of making our dreams a reality. It opens a way to career opportunities that are brilliant, hence fetching worthwhile prospects in the growth and career development. In the current world, all the employers demands that all their employees be people who have succeeded in schools. This has made schools be the criterion of eligibility for employment in any industrial sector. Schools provides the key education framework. Schooling would provide for us all fundamentals making us specialize in the sectors of our interest. It would also give us a conducive environment for us to become well informed and educated persons.
