Team Work Reflection (include a reflection on the team work process and project; what did you learn about yourself as a group member The group is composed of 6 members including Amy, Cody, Kelsey, Jojo, Veronica, and me. We were excited to discuss on the topics that would expound on sex education in BC curriculum. I did not have much any prior knowledge about sex education, in general, because no orientation was provided in my native country, Korea. I believe educators purposely avoid providing students with sex information in schools because of the controversial nature of the topic making them timid to discuss it.

Further, they think that by discussing sex education, the learning would promote sex before kids are even thinking about having sex. What I learned and remembered in school was only watching the reproduction video. Therefore, I did not know what aspects and levels of understanding do teachers, students and parents have toward the sex education topics in schools. The members of my group were so kind and accommodating. Kelsey already knew many things about BC sex education, so she pre-empted me by providing crucial information on the subject.

At the beginning, we decided to pursue a lot of research. So, I thought our group process was a little bit slower than other groups. As it turned out, the group process eventually evolved into generating enough information as we decided to delegate tasks and divided responsibilities into parts. Despite the delegation, we helped each other by sharing good ideas and useful links. Also, Amy’s sharing of the Prezi program was beneficial because I could only initially use PowerPoint for presentations.

I learned many perspectives from parents, students, and from the school toward sex education, and I also learned the various community resources we have. It was also the first time to actually call the health community center to ask what programs they could provide. As a group member, I learned to be a productive and collaborative member of the team through contributing skills, information, feedback and insights on the subject. I learned the craft of teambuilding and working effectively in a group through achievement of defined goals and by delegation of tasks that made the group experience productive and fun.
