Public relations in education s affiliation Public relations in education s Public relations (PR) is usually directly involves the public. Generally, it refers to the public perception towards an organization or an institution. The public perception is usually influenced by the activities or conduct of the organization or institution. The public relation activities are usually aimed at changing and influencing public perception to like an enterprise or venture. The importance of public relation cannot be undermined. Taking into consideration that all organization and institutions depend on the public for profits and returns, an impression to the society is then very important. Major organizations have established public relation department which focuses on how to impress the society. As much as strategies are usually applied to improve the public relation, ethics and company policies are the major influences. For example, if a child loses their life in a school compound, the public reaction towards the school would be very negative. The society will view the institution as an enemy to the community. With years the public relations are becoming difficult to improve. The society’s priorities towards organizations and institutions are increasing. This may be attributed to increased business ventures and the exposure to information. In schools the situation is the same. In the modern century school’s public relations should also be improved (Kowalski, 2010). Assignment 1 1. The implementation of PR is faced by several shortcomings. These shortcomings are based on understanding, accepting and acting. These barriers tend not to help in the influencing of the public’s perception towards the institution. Barriers to accepting are the barriers that prevent the public from accepting the PR implementation policies. According to Kowalski (2010) this barrier may be influenced by both internal and external factors. On internal factors, the institution may by having problems in influencing an ethical environment. The internal causes are mostly influenced by the conduct of the staff and administrators. If the institution has an appropriate PR implementation strategies and the conduct of the administrators is unethical, the public may find it difficult to accept the PR implementation policies. External factors are based on the fact that the public is exposed to many similar competitors. The institutions incentives may be not good enough to fulfill the priorities of the public hence they fail to accept any PR offering. A barrier to acting is the barrier that prevents the public from fulfilling their part as far as public relation is concerned. After accepting the PR recommendation, the pubic need to act according to the PR implementation plan. The acting barrier tends to stop any form of implementation of the PR plan. 2. The school administration has been greatly affected by the emergence of the information based society. With a greatly informed society the PR task becomes even more tiring (Kowalski, 2010). With the society exposed to a lot of information the administration finds it difficult to lure them for support. The exposure to information enables the society to have more permanent perceptions than relying on PR teams to influence their priorities. Apart from the society, the school administrators have to deal with an over informed student population. The influenced student population makes the approach to any PR to be very interactive so as to be appropriate. Exposure to information exposes the students and society to a more independent thinking and approach. With the emerging tends the school administrators should find ways to influence the perception of the society. For instance, the administration may apply the use of social media to interact with the society. 3. Liberty and equality are regarded as competing issue since the freedoms accompanied by the two vices differ. Liberty gives one the opportunity to think and act in their own will. Equality on the other hand provides individuals with the right to be given the same treatment as any other person. Equality can be on dictated terms but liberty has a freedom pact with it (Kowalski, 2010). With liberty actions and words are uttered willingly. In almost a similarity, equality and liberty may mean freedom from discrimination. With equality one’s perception by the society is of a different and appropriate approach. It is the same with liberty because one is given the freedom of choice without any form of discrimination. 4. In education, increased diversity is looked at as the depth of learning children undertake. All education sectors aim at providing adequate education. Adequate education refers to education which is appropriate for students, neither excess nor less effective. In modern day education, diversity has greatly influenced the field. Diversity has increased the depth of education in the curriculum. This forces the students to learn more content. However, an institution should have proper policies which only allow adequate education. If the diversity changes influences the depth of education to a point a student is over informed than it becomes unnecessary. Increased diversity redefines the depth of adequate education to an extent that its impact must be adjusted in the curriculum. Additionally, student should be educated on the current trends in the field. Assignment 2 1. The ethical conduct of tutors should be scrutinized on a daily basis. When dealing with kids, their welfare comes first. It is this priority that ethics among administrators and teachers should be evaluated regularly. The ethical conduct of administrators should be on top form not only to safe guard the welfare of children but also to set admirable character traits from teachers and students. School administrators have under their obligation the duty to ensure the code of conduct and ethics in their institutions is at top level (Kowalski, 2010). On the other hand, teachers and administrators need to be shielded from outcomes in any form of misconduct. The privacy of teachers should not be interfered with. Additionally, there should be laws and policies that may prevent the administrators in the arising of any form of litigation. 2. It is possible for administrators to function as educational leaders and drivers towards democratic decision making at the same time. This is because they have education on their offer to achieve this. Educational leadership comes with professional duties. To target democratic decision making on the other hand is a duty dictated by the ability of a true leader. With administrators having young minds at their disposal, they are in the best position to influence these minds to great democratic decision making. The children under their wing look up to them to them into admirable individual in society. They are required to mould these young bloods to special and intelligent people. It is this duty that compliments the administrators’ professional duties. The molding duty however depends on the character of the child. According to Kowalski (2010) the child’s character change is also in the administrators’ docket.
