Extract of sample "Improving Family and Community Involvement in Schools"

Communities and schools should work together in the promotion of the success of students as their collaboration is one of the ways through which assembly line schools that exist today can be provided with care (Sanders, 2007).

In trying to work with schools, parents face various challenges as in some cases they are not given a chance to participate wholly in the activities that affect the student regardless of the academic goals they may have for their children. Parents seek to be more involved in the classroom and the school by ensuring their involvement in what the students learn in school by encouraging two-way communication with the learning institution (Epstein, 2007). The parents can increase the participation of the community in the activities of the school or the community by arranging a flexible time for volunteers, making sure leadership roles have been filled by parents, and providing information on time among other activities (Marshall & Toohey, 2010).

The parents should be able to believe in and make a commitment to including all the stakeholders including the school and the community to create a collaborative learning community, which can promote academic achievement for everyone.
