Admission/Application Essay A: Chapman I am Abdulrahman from the Suffolk in Boston pursuing a degree course in Economics. I have had a longstanding interest in studying business related courses since childhood. Economics course relates to every facet of our lives ranging from the decisions we make to structures created by the government and business firms. I have always wanted to make better choices in life and economics course is the foundation for that. I have spent my life helping the needy in the past. I have been an active member of the Association of Friends of Diabetes Charity in Jeddah. Besides, economics students stand a better chance of gaining professional employment soon after graduating. Furthermore, I have excellent composure and self-control imparting me with the capability to manage emergencies. For instance, I presented the association’s speech to my fellow students when the endocrinologist who should have done the presentation canceled it last minute. I am a curious individual who would do whatever it takes to get the knowledge of what happens around me and seek an explanation as to why it happens. I am completely convinced that taking economics course has satisfied my curiosities. Amidst all the thousands of universities in America, I chose to apply to Chapman because of the entrepreneurial vision that I would like to actualize in future. Chapman has a beautiful, serene environment most appropriate for continuous learning activities. The student population of the Chapman University of 7,570 ensures that most students get adequate personal contact with the lecturers and instructors. The students come from a diverse collection of states and countries thus enabling them to have different cultural experiences and exposure from interacting with fellow students. The students possess excellent interpersonal skills after graduation. Moreover, the students easily relate the class work theory and real work environment thus lowering or eliminating the employers time in offering pre-training courses before the graduates can work without assistance. Possessing the skills always has the driving force behind my quest to join Chapman University. Academics aside, life at Chapman is an all-new experience. The students union provides forums where students can borrow iPads, grab hot meals or socialize with friends. The libraries are state-of-the-art and provide coffee during the late night hours on the comfortable library couches. Finally, Chapman University graduates express appreciable discipline in the workplaces and the society they represent hence the level of discipline at the university is excellent. I am a Chapman, majorly because I appreciate human nature. I am a Muslim student who acknowledges other religions and cultures as well. I have worked with different organizations in my previous studies including the Association of Friends of Diabetes Charity in Jeddah. I have a generous heart and would always dedicate my time to helping the needy. I am self-driven, and I understand that my academic and professional excellence is my responsibility, and, therefore, take the time to evaluate the universities that I should join to ensure that I succeed and prosper in life. I am completely convinced that Chapman University is the place to be for academic excellence and professional prosperity, and that is why I am a Chapman. Furthermore, I am fluent in the English language. Fluency in the English language in conjunction with my leadership skills would enable me to have excellent exposure and experience with my fellow students. I am both a social and sociable student and, therefore, would have numerous friends within a few days of stay at Chapman. Finally, I am an innovative student in the non-science fraternity. I would ensure that I apply the skill to better the university and the students at large. B: Claremont McKenna College Claremont McKenna College is an institution that embraces the diversity that makes the world unique and adventurous. The university appreciates the differences that make up human nature and the shared values including differences in faith, tradition, philosophy, race or opinion. The university utilizes the abilities to put wisdom to work in the world and consequently realize a better world. I am a Muslim student who recognizes and appreciates other religions. Claremont McKenna College is a University of diverse faiths, religions and the interfaith presence influenced my choice to include the university in one of my selections. I would learn and understand various beliefs as regards different faiths all around the world while at the college. The college is committed to teamwork, of which I am an excellent player. I value teamwork and have previously realized significant results through the associations that I have been a part. Additionally, the university offers diverse programs in entrepreneurship, finance and banking, global business and healthcare most of which form the foundation of my current major course. The college also enjoys a reputable public confidence through the adequately experienced alumni serving in the job market. The college’s graduates have assisted in solving different problems that affect the business environment on a daily basis. I am completely convinced that the college would enable me sharpen my leadership skills and general life experiences so I could adequately fit in the ever changing career world. C: Loyola Marymount University Loyola University is an institution of choice that holds paramount academic excellence to self-driven, ambitious students. The University also has excellent records in sporting activities that ensure healthy student lives. The university would provide me with a fair chance to compete effectively with other graduates from other universities in the employment world because of the reputation it holds. The University is a Catholic school and believes in Christianity. However, the university allows admission of students from diverse religions and ethnic backgrounds so they can get a feel of the Catholic missionary. I selected Loyola Marymount University so I could get a first-hand experience of Christianity. I am a hardworking student who believes in teamwork. Loyola Marymount University is my university of choice since it has many clubs and associations that I can join and sharpen my leadership and teamwork skills. Finally, I would get the opportunity to combine the economic major that I take with other complementary courses offered at the university, so I increase my competitiveness in the labor market. D: Occidental College Occidental College is a reputable university well known to provide excellent academic qualifications in art and sciences courses. The university has a small student population of about 2500 and is at the forefront of intercultural and interdisciplinary education that combines the classroom theories with community-based learning. I found Occidental College’s location to be favorable for my stay since it is located in the suburbs. The college’s fees are also affordable and, therefore, open admission to many students from different geographical background and culture. The quality of education at the Occidental College would enable me to prepare for leadership in the rapidly complex, pluralistic and interdependent world. The college celebrates a diverse culture and disciplines and consequently fulfills the students’ individual commitments to the public good. The small size of the university enables it to offer a rigorous community service, superb curriculum and faculty, and a diverse student body. Finally, I selected the college since it provides financial aid to needy students to ensure they pursue their dreams. I am a visionary student who sees possibilities in all sorts of problems. I approach situations positively and am always optimistic to getting the solution. I have always wanted to grow intellectually, spiritually, morally and socially in all the aspects of life. I have always been curious and assertive from birth. People around me have relied on me when given instructions since my curiosity has enabled me acquire a sense of responsibility. I usually work to deliver excellent results. I ask and seek answers to questions around me. I would engage my peers and instructors most of the time to explain the doubts that I have concerning science and life. My high school teachers recognized my curiosity and consequently noted that my curiosity formed the foundation of the knowledge that I currently possess. I am motivated to solve economic problems in the most appropriate order. I utilize the leadership skills I currently have to develop a procedure for solving the said problem sequentially. I also have an excellent mastery of computer knowledge and just recently established a database of the women in engineering using Excel software. I also possess the desire to research on the subject of economics and formulate the various strategies that would best address problems in the business sector. I would apply the prior knowledge I gained while working with the Young Engineers Activity Programme where we designed a robot to assist the players in the economics fraternity to efficiently solve problems. I continually work on the skills I posses so I can deliver the most out of every encounter. Furthermore, I have moved from the C grade I used to get during admission to a B grade that shows how hardworking I have been since I joined college. E: Pepperdine University I am a Muslim student who has expressed interest in joining Pepperdine University and would like to be one of your roommates. I have a variety of interpersonal skills that would enable my successful stay with you in your hostels. I am always positive about issues and never crib over small things nor look for mistakes in others. I respect for everyone around me and am always conscious of what I say or do lest I annoy my fellows. Moreover, I am a fluent speaker of the English language with sufficient communication skills, both oral and written. I am sociable and love making friends and sharing experiences. I am looking forward to acquiring a proper academic qualification that would open various opportunities in my life and ensure that I become of great help to the society. I am a community player and has previously assisted in various community programs and made a difference in many people’s lives. Besides, I am cheerful, generous, honest, patient listener, kind and trustworthy. I was born to Muslim parents, and consequently I am a Muslim by birth. Faith has been my anchor in both the good and bad times. It has changed the way I treat other people and respond to the people who ridicule me. I believe in faith when I experience adverse conditions such as sickness or death of a loved one. I worship every time to ensure that my faith grows stronger. The Muslim faith has, moreover, taught me the importance of other people in my life. Through faith, I have been able to assist the destitute and the poor through the previous organizations and associations that I have formed a part. I so treat each person as with equality and respect. F: University of Redlands The University of Redlands has for a long time enjoyed consistent ranking as one of the best universities in California. The university has kept its promise to deliver quality education through active involvement of students in the education processes. The University celebrates gender, cultural, religious and social class diversity that defines an individual’s uniqueness. The college is located in a serene green environment that is pleasant for studies. I felt attracted to the university because of the qualities explained above and would like to be an alumni once I complete my studies so that I continue serving the public through the many community service programs at the University. Moreover, the quality of education at the University is appropriate to the current job market. The university boasts of a variety of learning materials including a complete library stocked with books encompassing a variety of programs. I would like to utilize the facilities to ensure I get the recommended academic qualifications. Given the chance to be in the admission panel, I would ask applicants about their views concerning the importance of outside qualities such as leadership and critical thinking skills. I would ask the question because the job market is rapidly changing hence requires people with outstanding academic qualifications and other skills including leadership. The universities and colleges also would like to admit people who can transform the university environment. I would respond to the question that students who possess the outside abilities are often academically successful and active in the campus. The students would also be of great help to the society once they graduate. The students also have an upper hand in getting a scholarship and financial assistance from the university. G: Richmond University, London The Richmond University in London is a liberal arts and professional studies university established to differentiate between the academic credentials and commercial elements of the alternative sector. The University admits students from all over the world thus enhancing intercultural exchange and international friendships. I love making friends, and I thought that the university is a good avenue for making friends from across the world. Besides, the University is accredited to offer business related courses of which economics is my major. I believe the university’s courses are relevant to the current business world.
