Jewel: I am from New York City

Me: What do you do?

Jewel: I work as a finance officer at a company in the city

Me: How old are you?

Jewel: I am 35 years old

Me: Is there any injustice which you have faced in your entire life?

Jewel: In my life I have seen and gone through many injustices but the one which affected me most was gender discrimination which my mother went through and discrimination which I face up to now because of my color.

Me: When, where and how did you first become aware of racism:

Jewel: I had watched movies whose themes was racism, read books and even listened to music. However, when I was growing, there were quarrels between my parents, and they kept fighting where my mother was always a victim of domestic violence. She was a white and my father was a black. When I started understanding, I learnt that the parents to my mother did not want her to get married to a black and when she conceived with a black man, the hatred grew bigger and due to that my father was letting out his frustrations with my mother. That is when the aspect of racism sunk in me.

Me: why do you think makes racism an injustice?

Jewel: discriminating someone because of color is an injustice because the skin color does not matter. Justice refers to moral righteousness which is based on fairness, equality and ethics. All people are equal and they have the ability to do anything. I feel that my mother should not have been denied to love the man she wants. As long as they love each other, no one should have stopped them. As a result she would have been happy. Believing that race is the basic determinant of human capacities and traits hence making one group superior than the other is wrong.

Me; how does racism affect your life

Jewel: I was psychologically affected by everything which was going on in our family. I had to look for a counselor to tell the whole thing of gender violence and discrimination. Being half black and half white I was afraid of my future. The counseling was successful but up to today I have been denied two jobs because of my color, and when I was in high school I also faced some discrimination. For example, I remember one day when we were in hall for lunch and I took my lunch and sat down on a table which was occupied by whites and they all woke up and took another table. Having gone through all that since childhood, I have been able to cope.

Me; what should be done about it

Jewel: I am happy that the government has already come up with laws against racial discrimination but I feel that more awareness on equality should be created through campaigns, songs, books and movies.

Me: Do you know of anyone who is already trying to make a difference? What are they doing?

Jewel; yes, American Institute for Managing Diversity is an organization which is trying to bring people of all races together. They also organize seminars on the same

Me; do you think racism will come to an end?

Jewel: yes it will but if only people understand the value of love

Me: what punishment would you give those those who discriminate on racism bases?

Jewel it is a psychological problem. They should be counseled because if punished they will be more bitter

Me: Personally what are you doing to stop racism?

Jewel: there is nothing much I can do, I treat all people equally and talk to those I can

Me; other than blacks are there other races which are discriminated?

Jewel: yes, people like the American Indians go through the same

Me: what would you like to tell racist?

Jewel: no one chose to be from a certain race and love is the greatest virtue of all.

According to evolutionary theory, culture and society are subject to the same general laws (Nelson, 2009). To stop racism and its effect I will call people for talks based on equality to all. I will ensure that the talks are facilitated by all races.

I will visit as many high schools as possible preaching to them about equality. High school students are at a stage where they are still learning a lot. It is also the place where racism is rampant.

The third objective is to set a counseling firm which will deal with specifically racial discrimination cases.
