Group work-Discussion and Presentation: Students are required to review chapter 5 of the textbook and perform a formative evaluation of various reasons for evaluation that would be used during instruction (Fenwick, & Parsons, 2009). Every student must participate in the group work because the instruction will entirely base on this chapter and the group’s presentation. 

Time Estimated for the activity: 1 hour (60 minutes) for a group 10

  • Twenty minutes for the group members to get ready and contribute their ideas with the rest of the group. 
  • Ten minutes for each group (8 groups) to present their findings on various approaches that are incorporated for evaluation. 
  • 10 minutes for discussion wrap-up

Group Work Activity: Learners should be divided into groups of 5 to complete the following steps: 

  • Every learner is required to review chapter 5 to review the reasons as to why evaluation should take place that can be used in the teaching process.
  • Learners are required to reflect on their past experience and assess how it has changed over time, and select two major reasons that they have seen more useful for learning and evaluation of adult learning. 
  • Each group member will be required to present their own reasons, and then compile a final list of five reasons why evaluation should be carried out
  • In the group discussion which will take 30 minutes, the students will put down their 5 main activities that they engaged in a group discussion. 
  • Each group will have a maximum of 5 minutes to explain their reason for evaluation is needed. 
  • Each member is required to present one reason. 
  • Learners should reflect on the activities of other groups. 

NOTE: Everyone should highly participate in the group work because it will influence the grading. 

Formative Evaluation (Chapter 5): Objective Method

Individual work-True/False Quiz: This formative evaluation is performed after chapter 5 has been reviewed by learners. 

Time Estimate: 30 minutes

True or False Quiz: Please respond to these particular questions independently (I mark per question (10 marks))

Course material and Chapter 5 of The Art of Evaluation can be used as references.

Summative Evaluation (Chapter 3): Objective Method

Individual work-Test: This summative evaluation is performed after chapter 3 has been reviewed by the learners.

Estimate Time: 1 hour (60 minutes)

  • Learners will be allowed for I hour to respond to all short answer questions below at an individual level

Short answer test: Please, carefully go through the following five questions and provide answers.

NOTE: It is exclusively individual work. Any form of discussion will not be allowed and will attract a zero score.

  • State two major types of evaluation. (2 marks)
  • Explain how the above identified evaluation methods are used. (8 marks)
  • State four reasons why evaluation should be carried out. (4 marks)
  • Describe quantitative information (3 marks)
  • State and explain 5 reasons why quantitative information is still recognized in North America (10 marks)

Summative Evaluation (Chapter 5): Subjective Method

Individual work- Course Reflection Assignment: This summative evaluation is performed after reviewing chapter 5 of the textbook by learners.

Estimated Time of Activity: 1 hour (60 minutes)

  • A time length of one hour will be given to learners to complete the reflection of the 5 questions at an individual level.

Course reflection Assignment: Provide the responses to the following questions to complete your course reflection assignment. The learners should exclusively submit their own work to the course instructor and will be required that they present their experience through the learning journey so as to gain full marks.

  • Reflecting on your learning experiences, give various techniques that you would use in choosing an evaluation strategy, giving their advantages and considerations. Give three of them (i.e paper and pencil test: essay style, student demonstration of skill and informal student writing. (12 marks)
  • Reflecting on your learning experiences state and explain your preferred technique of choosing a strategy, giving advantages and considerations. (4 marks)
  • Reflecting on learning experience you got from your respective group, what evaluation technique was more suitable for you? Explain. (4 marks)
  • What is the most important thing that you have learnt from chapter 5, choosing a strategy? (3 marks)
  • Share your learning experience with the class. (2 marks)
