According to Evertson and Emmer (2009), this also aids in teaching and learning because the learners are able to internalize the most important concepts that help them understand what they are taught. The classroom discussion taking place is very effective because the teacher is involving the class in the teaching and learning process. The learners have been given the opportunity to participate in the classroom activities because the teacher is delegating them to answer the questions being asked in the classroom. Miller, Linn and Gronlund (2009), note that participative learning is an effective teaching strategy which the teacher is using in this case. The teacher is generally asking questions and the students are volunteering to answer these questions. After the students have answered the questions, the teacher further elaborates that answers so that all the students can understand what is being taught. Question and answer method is an effective instructional method because it gives the students a chance to say what they know and be corrected in case they go wrong (Jones & Jones, 2010). The teacher is also using participatory learning by giving the students a chance to participate in the learning process. The teacher asks the children to come in front of the classroom and answer the questions that have been asked. In addition to the participatory learning, the teacher is also using direct instruction by providing information that the students need to know (Jones & Jones, 2010). C). The students appear to be very interested in the type of instructions being given by the teacher. The students seem to be pleased with the way the teacher is conducting the lesson. The term “English language Learners” refers to individuals who speak another language besides English. It is critical that teachers learn and understand about the needs of the ELL students in order for them to flourish in ther academic careers. Without properly learning understanding the needs of an ELL students is dangerous as many students get frustrated with their course load.
For a student, one advantage of learning in native or primary language is the immediate comprehension of the subject without having to struggle at understanding concepts in the secondary language. This prevents barrier with foreign words which are initially unfamiliar and has every tendency to offer confusion with the context by which the student is able to comprehend a subject matter.
Assessments can focus on the individual learner, groups, institution and the educational system. The assessment provides a focus on the activities and the scholarly output of the students. A high-pressure educational environment created by an increased emphasis on student and teacher accountability.
It not only helps students understand the concepts but also helps them communicate with each other properly. There are some advantages and disadvantages of teaching students in their primary languages. Let us discuss those advantages and disadvantages in detail.
As the importance of languages is well known, there arise several questions as to which of the language form is more essential to learn and which of them will be beneficial for communicating on a global. English is the most popular language which serves as the platform for learning things and communicating in a global forum.
As far as what we do know is concerned, it can be said that a number of factors including the absence of a good and reliable model at home, absence of constant practice after school, interferences in learning and lack of attention are inhibiting Elsa from mastering the English language and gaining control over some of the basic concepts and ideologies that English language learning comes with.
In order to measure the progress of a student such as Angel, I would initiate a portfolio of her work. At the start of the learning year, I would craft a file for her and other students. I would keep some model assignments in the folder all through the year.
