In support of this hypothesis, the text goes on to define multicultural education and to provide an analysis of the various theories of multicultural education. The people involved as part of the problem include the teachers and mentors who have difficulty in coping up with the differing standards and language issues of the students. This has meant that the multicultural education issue has been a very difficult one to cope, because it has not been able to solve the quandaries which engulf the basis of success and harmony for the related ranks (Obiakor, 2010).
Yet, these are not the issues that define America as a nation, and they are not the issues that celebrate our great diversity. Multicultural education has become a necessity in today's global classrooms that are populated by students from around the world.
The historical origin of this approach can be traced back to the civil rights movements when African Americans and other historically oppressed minorities challenged discriminatory educational practices in the 1960s (Davidman and Davidman, 1997). Since those days multicultural education has developed into a broad framework encompassing variety of models sharing the core principles of multicultural approach.
Culture, as a body of learned behaviors common to a given human society, acts rather like a template (ie. it has predictable form and content), shaping behavior and consciousness within a human society from generation to generation. So culture resides in all learned behavior and in some shaping template or consciousness prior to behavior as well (that is, a "cultural template" can be in place prior to the birth of an individual person).
