Effect of shot peening on the microstructure and mechanical properties Abstract Previous studies reveal the features of components altered through Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) results in mal functions in the form of roughness of high intensity, porous nature, or general roughness or simply absence of good qualities in terms of mechanical features. A method called Shot peening is a method that is finding attention in this regard with aims of considerable improvement in the overall grain within the structure and its various parts. This would enable more active resistance against the cracking process as well as the nucleation process. The main objectives undertaken in the entire study include altering the general mechanical featured functions in 17-4 stainless steel undergone through DMLS. The shot peening enables a better handling of these components and provides better featured functions in the given mechanical devices and components. This is on account of extra amount of work put in. The subsequent literature based understanding can enable dissecting further into this field for the purpose of future developments, research and studies. Introduction Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a method through which the various components are joint together for the large purpose of creating a substance related to the 3D model data set, commonly layered one over the other, in contrast to the other methods such as that of the subtractive manufacturing methodology [1-5]. This particular method is believed to bring about the new methods and techniques which will generally make the overall process of structural design and crafting much more easily as compared to the previously existing methods and techniques. With the given modern day advancements and developments in the form of automation supported features, without the tool technique or AM supported functioning units, each will benefit from the given method and new techniques incorporated in this regard [6]. A commonly used and implemented method in this regard is that of the AM support unit in the form of Direct Metal Laser Sintering, which comes along with the feature function of generating a net-structured part and can further extended for the entire process of manufacturing through the use of the pre-alloyed powders [7-10]. Components that are generated through this method yield more accurate results and the crafted outlook is much more appreciated and encouraged in terms of quality and general outlook. [10]. Hence, shot peening is possibly an option towards making use of the techniques that enable designing any structure and any outlook based object. It also enables designing along the difficult geometry based designs. This in turn also enables to have improved mechanical outlook featured properties as a whole. [11-13]. For this method and techniques, residual compression based stress is incorporated through the domestic plastic deform method on around the exterior layer. [13, 14]. The impact that the process of shot peening casts is an achievement in its own and is studied through the literature content [15-18]. Other general features of it include the aspects of providing maximum resistance against the process of corrosion or any other rusting of the material that may take place over period of time. Shot peening further, finds its usage with regard to the experimental purposes which further includes the large scale production and protecting the inner structures from suffering any damages or deterioration as a whole. [19-21]. The last few years, a general spike up has been observed in the case of 17-4 Precipitation Hardening (PH) stainless steel in the numerous categories of engineering based devices and methods. This comes along based on the fact that the qualities of stiffness and strength against the various environmental changes are few of the methods and techniques that enable quality based features as a whole. [22-28]. The 17-4 PH featured stainless steel is created through the process of DMLS and further through the method of incorporating the shot-peening along the small scaled components where the deep investigation is possible. Experimental procedures Powder, DMLS, and shot-peening processes The in market present 17-4 stainless steel powders gas are atomized in an artificial setup of Ar-gas environment, (powder size is -45 +10 µm), for the purpose of stocking. The general stain free samples of the microstructural and mechanic feature based items are generated and producted with the help of DMLS along with the EOS machine. The given variables and data figures are present in the figure listed as Table 1. The temperature is held at 80 ºC. further, making use of the technique called the Scanning formula is commonly implemented through the help of EOS, and this process is known as “stripes” ( with regard to the direction to scan the element along the percentage rotate degree of 66º along sequential multiple segments).
