Power Factor Investigation

This makes it necessary to use suitable means to correct the power factor. This paper examines the use of the synchronous motor for power factor correction. There are several ways of defining power factor depending on the context of study. However, all the definitions come from the understanding that electrical power manifests in three ways. These are real power denoted as P (also known as true power or active power), reactive power denoted as Q, and apparent power denoted as |S| (Singh, 2008). Apparent power is the magnitude of complex power denote as “S” which is the vector sum of real power and reactive power (Singh, 2008). Each of the three manifestations of power has a different measure. The unit of measurement of real power is in watts (W) that of apparent power is Voltage-Amperes (VA), while that of apparent power is in Reactive-Volt-Amperes (VAR) (Meier, 2006). The ratio obtained by comparing real power to apparent power is the power factor. ...

An Investigation of Safety Practices in the Saudi Arabia Construction Industry
A study conducted by Larsson and Field (2002) demonstrated that risk exposure in terms of safety continues to be high in the construction industry. A study by Edwards and Nicholas (2002) also portrayed the construction industry as the most hazardous in Europe as well as globally. In their assessment of safety in the construction industry of Saudi Arabia, Jannadi and Assaf (2000) found that safety management is very poor, and further thatit is not tightly regulated by the government, as it should be. The findings also demonstrated the need for a safety code to be implemented in Saudi Arabia in…

Nuclear Power
Nuclear power is generated by a chain reaction of atom, which is the minute particle that cannot be further divided. They are the “building blocks” of every single thing that exists from a human to a chair. Atoms are made up of electrons which have negative charge, circling nuclei consisting of protons and neutrons. Protons are positively charged while the neutrons are neutral that is they are not charged. There are some elements whose atoms are unstable atoms. Such unstable atom’s nucleus tends to break and form a stable atom. In doing so, they emit enormous energy which eventually…

Hybrid Power System
The paper tells that the power system of choice which best suits this project is “Hybrid Power System”. This system employs combination of Off grid renewable energy technologies among which we are going to use a combination of Solar, Wind, Hydropower and for an emergency back up a gasoline/diesel generator is also provided. Hybrid power system is selected due to two reasons, firstly because it can be established off-grid to satisfy small demand of electricity and long distribution infrastructure can be avoided. Secondly as we are aware that none of the available sources of energy ie…

Investigation of Process Parameter Optimization of High Speed CNC Milling for Composite Materials using Combined Genetic Algorit
Machinability in terms of quality and productivity is of great concern in a competitive market. CNC milling performance is evaluated in terms of surface roughness, material removal rate, taper and facing. CNC machining is done initially in a number of passes an final end milling is done in a single pass. The most common machining parameters are cutting speed, feed, depth of cut. To have a balance between productivity and quality, the machining parameters need to be optimised. …

Power Quality in Electrical Power System
Hence the load that develops is one of the most prominent reasons as well as the most important victim of power quality related issues. Since they are non-linear in nature this causes great load which results in turbulence in the waveform of the voltage.  “Component can be established. It is possible in the same way to correlate certain disturbances with consumption patterns of electricity, such as the early evening television peak in the harmonic distortion and signal Processing of Power Quality etc.” (Bollen, 2006) Thus in order to overcome this disturbance there are numerous…

Reactive Power compensation
This is due to the fact that it has no reactive power at all. As a matter of fact, its reactive power is equivalent to zero. In this case, the power triangle mimics and horizontal line. This should logically be so noting that the opposite side which represents reactive power has a length of 0 cm. inappropriate power factor can be rectified, paradoxically, through addition of an extra load to the circuit. In essence, the added load is equivalent reactive power acting in an opposite direction. The addition cancels the effects resulting from a load's inductive reactance. Notably, only capacitive…

Distributed Power System Network with Renewable Sources
In the past years, the increase in the petroleum prices, coupled with tendency of fossil fuel reserves and their dangerous effects that cannot be avoided and the lack of political stability in the sources of energy regions have led to the renewable energy systems study (Air-X, 2008). In this case, electrical energy is outputted by the systems of renewable energy systems like fuel cells and photovoltaic panels in direct current form. As a result, regardless of the fact that the electrical energy produced by the wind turbines is directly proportional to the wind velocity making it alternative…
