Summary
The beam in Figure Q1 has two supports; a fixed end at joint “A” and a roller support at point “C”. The beam carries a lump mass of 100 kg at the end B (ignore the self-mass of the beam) and the beams are made of rectangular profiles of size (10 cm × 10 cm). The two…

b) Model the beam in ABAQUS and determine the natural frequency. You need to print the view where the natural frequency is displayed. The natural frequency value should be clearly visible. This value should be approximately equal to the one worked out in part (a). If there is a discrepancy then you need to explain why. You also need to submit the ABAQUS file in zip format. Q2. A two-storey rigid building frame shown in Figure Q2 is to be analysed under dynamic loading. The flexural rigidity (EI) is the same for all columns.

The columns are made of reinforced concrete (E = 20 GPa) rectangular sections with size of (10 cm x 10 cm). The slab floors are considered solid with EIslab 1000 x EI column. Each student has a unique set of values for m1, m2, (total mass of the first and second floor slab respectively) and L presented in Table Q2. Given the above information you need to carry out the following. Please note that if your model does not conform to your individual values, you will receive zero marks for this part of the submission. a) Determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure using hand calculations.

The calculations should clearly show the work-out and should be preferably typed. b) Model the structure in ABAQUS and determine the natural frequencies of the structure as well as the values of the mode shapes. You need to print the view where the natural frequencies and mode shapes are displayed. The natural frequency values should be clearly visible. These values should be approximately equal to the one worked out in part (a). If there is a discrepancy then you need to explain why. You also need to submit the ABAQUS file in zip
