In the case where an organization won’t like a solution that I consider to be the best for ethical reasons, I would still take that stand and present the best ethical solution. I would not give them any other inferior solution instead. An engineer actually requires a wide range of skills and knowledge.

It is important to note that truss assemblies are built to provide support for a normal or expected load or stress. Firestop contains components that are used for closing any kind of breach or joint. Due to openings, the fire can be spread out from one place to another within no time. For blocking such kinds of openings, a firestop is used. Because of the absence of safe escape passages, the lives of people in a building can be endangered. While designing a commercial or residential building, there should be well-established and full-fledged means of escape for fire safety. In collapse situations, the lives of people who are resided in a building are endangered and there is a timely requirement of leaving the building at once in order to safeguard any life loss. For example, when a building is on fire and the fire is not controlled in time, the building can collapse because of the damage caused by the fire outbreak.

Fire prevention would include the education of people in society and the skillful use of different materials in everyday life. The materials used in buildings for this purpose are grouped into what are called building codes.  The codes recognize that a fire may occur (Rose S.E., et al 2007).  The purpose is to provide active or passive fire prevention standards.

The fire department sent three hundred firefighters to the One Meridian Plaza with modern equipment on the site. Three firefighters from Engine Company 11, died in this incident on the 28th floor of the building. Loss of electric power, interruption of radio communication, and the smoke along with poisonous gases were the factors that lead to the death of the firefighters.

Two drawbacks to the engineering approach to safety and health are the human factor and evolving industries. The first factor is the human factor. An engineering approach used in any industry takes into consideration all normal factors, such as mechanical wear, predictable human behavior, and design.

Fire flow test has the potential of correcting problems in the water distribution system and should be carried out effectively.

The Water Hammer effect is produced by opening and shutting a valve too promptly and there could be a pressure build-up due to these effects. The pressure that is developed due to these effects could damage the hose and it is important that the firefighter minimizes the risk of hose damage that is caused by “water hammer” (Edwards, 2000).

In fighting a fire, the most important tools are the hose and the nozzle. The length of the hose plays a great role in the ability of the firefighters to reach the fire stream as a longer hose would definitely reach the fire stream faster than a shorter one. The use of a long hose is very helpful as this would reduce the risk of the firefighter being affected by the fire.
