My autobiography On the 26th day of December in the year of the Dragon, just a day after Christmas a baby was born in a country that was colonized by British but later emerged as the world superpower. I guess my parents would have named me Jesus Christ as they were very religious. Surprisingly, they never even imagined naming me after a prominent boxer despite being born on Boxing Day. Can you guess the reason? This is because they thought I could grow and develop into a dangerous person who only fights physical war and not spiritual one they were fighting. Lol... To them, anything not religious was bad and so boxing was unholy. My first name was after our local priest and my second name was after my father’s “brother in Christ”- both holy men according to him. So that meant I was a holy man but I don’t think I like saying hallelujah every second as my nemeses. My father always referred to my mother as sister in Christ while mum referred to him as brother in Christ. They rarely called one another by real names. My parents were a hard working couple who fulfilled man’s mission as outlined in many religious teachings- “Go thee and fill the earth.” They specialized in producing babies six times in ten years and were “blessed” with twin babies as the second born. Lol… That was a complete soccer team capable of mounting a challenge for a worthy trophy. I can remember every Sundays, we were marching to the local church in spectacular clothes, and the other kids used to refer to us Manchester United F.C. I was brought up in a remote suburb region where we could take over two hours on the road travelling to the city to do shopping and take photos in spectacular places. I can remember how I used to bite big chunks of Durian fruit which was my favorite and grew abundantly in my hometown. I have a good appetite for food and cannot withstand the sight of roast pork. Don’t want to talk about it, I am almost salivating. I enjoyed kindergarten and studied both primary and secondary classes in a Spanish school. I don’t know why the entire school was boycotting purchasing daily stuff in the nearby shopping mall. However, rumors had it that the owner had destroyed our school canteen. I guess he did that so we could purchase in his mall. That could be a business strategy, haha…. I can remember those days I used to walk around our village and school trying to know and understand so many things greater than my age. I was so courageous, daring, and outspoken, my parents thought that I was stubborn. But I was not seeing things from their perspective. That was being curious and ambitious, can remember one day I deflated one of the front tires of my uncle’s car. Reason – I wanted to know why the tires are always big, bigger than those of my toy car’s, what makes them so big yet the ones I see at the local mechanic store were not that big. Curiosity killed the cat. Lol… I can remember that day so well and will never forget it till the last moment of my life, the spanks and shouts I got from my parents, I guess they were more than the ones I received later in my whole life. Not forgetting the incident when I was playing next to the neighbor’s house. Unfortunately, I kicked a ball and it went straight and knocked the glass window, ooh poor me. My neighbor almost skinned me alive, shoved me on the ground, pulled me up, and drag me straight to my parents, fuming with rage and saying all kinds of insults and criticism. I hoped the earth could burst open and swallow me. That which happened next I can’t tell, but still lingers in my memory. At elementary level, my best day was Thursday. You can see both boys and girls in beautiful games kit playing and singing the whole day. That was the subject taught and was my best, scoring the highest. At an older age, I was made the class prefect and therefore in- charge of the Thursdays’ subject because I was the most active participant, modestly awarded for the overall good grades at the end of the term. My high school days were the most exciting, I don’t think to ever forget. I experienced drastic body changes therefore being shy. Moreover, I came across crushes, courtship, and love team ups. I can clearly remember my first kiss. Wow. It was such a sweet sensation that I still cannot explain to date. That was my first lover to date, just because of that kissing experience. However, unlike our soccer team produced by my parents, my family is small, just four family members. I guess I must have disappointed my parents for not following in their footsteps. Michael Jordan was my best NBA player and model, so I strived to be like him but unfortunately, I finished my high school studies without even a call up to the national team. So bad for me, I felt wasted and a failure. However, I am so happy that despite failing to develop into best basket player like Michael Jordan, I managed to be successful in my academics. That was the dream of my dad, “Read your books and work hard at school.” For him, joining university was all he wanted from his kids. The word failure was never in his vocabulary because he believed he got all he wanted in life; a good job, good house, a beautiful wife and a big family, eleven children minus him and my mum. Lol… Among his many offspring, I was the lucky one to have scored the winning goal- joining university and pursuing the career of my choice. He was always proud of me and often told my other siblings to emulate my hardworking habit. Currently, I am doing a bachelor’s degree in business administration. I can remember most days, I have to read huge volumes of business related books in order to pass my exams. Though I know earning a first class is a daunting task, I believe nothing is impossible, a belief I learnt from my kindergarten teacher who used to spank and shout at me whenever I could not pronounce or read A, B, C, D…, oh, those English alphabets. Despite not being among the top students in my class, I am still proud of my achievements. I believe good things are ahead and with the right attitude and a willing heart, nothing is impossible in life. I see myself running my own business in the future. Works cited Jackson, Tim.
