The Great Wall of China Thesis The Great Wall of China is regarded as one of the wonders of the world which was built across the northern borders of China is to protect the Empire of China against the intrusion of enemy forces. The development of The Great Wall of China helped to provide a barrier between foreign invasion and Chinese civilization. The creation of The Great Wall allowed regions around the wall to fell free from the fear of destruction and perpetual invasion. Introduction The Great Wall of China is one of the largest building projects that were built 2000 years ago. The pivotal cause for the construction of The Great Wall is to guard and defend Chinese Empire from warlike forces or peoples. The wall is built by Qin Shi Huang. Some of the additional purpose of The Great Wall of China includes encouragement of trade, border controls, control of emigration and permitting the imposition of duties on goods which are transported. Moreover, the defensive features of the wall is enhanced and developed by the construction of signaling capabilities, troop barracks and watch towers. Events that led to the construction of the Great Wall of China (A) The Great Wall of China is viewed as one of the most recognizable symbol in the history of China. The best-preserves sector and best-known parts was built at the time of 17th century A.D. Moreover, the construction of The Great Wall of China has never entirely prevented invaders from entering in the area of China. But this vivid and long history of The Great Wall provided a psychological barrier between the world and Chinese civilization. The construction projects of the wall remained as a powerful symbol for entire country by enduring strength.One of the causes that led to the construction of The Great Wall is constant attack from the Mongol horde. At the time of Southern Song Dynasty, a new breed of ferocious warriors has evolved is china known as the Mongols. These ferocious steppe warriors were commanded by the one of the legendary Genghis Khan. This legendary great Khan came in to prominence by the unification of many nomadic tribes. These tribes are basically from northeastern part of Asia. The formation of Mongolian Empire developed in to the major contiguous empire. Northern states have been united by the Mongolian Empire to create a well-organized, large and formidable group of military that was capable of frightening the whole empire of China. At the time of Mongolian Empire the wall was easy for warriors to overcome as it was largely earthen walls. In 1211, Genghis khan and inner Mongolian hordes could easily overcome the significant fortification and pass to the wall to plunder at the capital of Beijing (Schuman et al., 2012). At the time of subsequent decades, Genghis Khan and the Mongols regularly found ways to pass through the earthen walls. The grandson of Genghis Khans was Kublai Khan. The leadership of Kublai Khan helped to defeat the Song. Moreover, Kublai Khan ruled entire Chinese Empire for more than 100 years. This resembles the fact that the lack of defensive features and impregnable wall was the main reason behind the success of Kublai Khan and Genghis Khan. In 1368, Chinese were back in to prominence after defeating the Mongols. This led to the start of the Ming Dynasty. (B) During the time of Ming Dynasty, all modern sections of the walls were renovated and reconstructed to provide an impregnable wall for defense. The Ming rulers categorically discussed and stated decided that the first line of defense would be military posts that are located near the northern border. The inner line of defense is wall which were connected by forts and new walls. At the beginning, the walls were made of earthen materials. This type of materials does not require lot of labor. But after the occurrence of events at the time of Mongolian Empire, Chinese decided to use granite blocks, stones and bricks to make walls much stronger and effective in contradiction to future attacks. The place of strong of military presence is possible by the use of large number of labor. 300 hundred thousand peasants and prisoners were required to construct The Great Wall of China. These peasants and prisoners were conscripted by the emperor to leave their jobs and families for years to complete the construction of the Great Wall. One of the hard tasks of the process of construction is to find workers and eventually take care of them and their families (Su & Wall, 2012). Effects of Wall (A) In recent years, the Chinese development of civil society has created a topic of greater interest. The emergence of civil society is regarded by many scholars is in the reform era of china. Notable developments by the construction of the Great Wall of China are expansion of the media, proliferation of social organization and upsurge at the several forms of current argument. The Great Wall of China is one of the leading tourist attractions and it becomes aim of millions of people to visit the place. This place of tourist attraction leads to the growth of economy. Moreover, this leads to the development of civil society in China. (B) According to Da Ming Sheng Guo, one of the richest provinces and most populous part of the modern china include Jiangsu in the Southern part of The Great Wall of China. The emergence of popularity in the southern region is mainly due to the construction of the Great Wall. At the time of Sothern Song, the Song was ambitious and determined to its southern part of the great Wall. This period of time is regarded as vastly culturally rich era. The southern regions of The Great Wall of China were the outcome of the suppression of minorities by the rulers in the Qing Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty. The defensive function of the Southern Great Wall is not same as the northern China, but the soldier system and similar military group states that Southern Great Wall is the complete part of The Great Wall of China (Da Ming, 2014). (C) Xing Zou De Yu stated that Gubeikou Great Wall and Panlong Great Wall are some of the precious and rare part of the history of China. The Great Wall of China is one of the remarkable architectural achievements that became pivotal part in history. UNESCO labeled that the Great Wall is the only manmade construction that can only be observable from the moon. The primary benefit of the Great Wall is rise in economic growth. The revenue generated from tourism is used to repair the damaged segment and can also benefit for the advancement of local infrastructure. Every part of the region is benefit from tourism. The Great Wall of China is one of the natural and world cultural heritages that become responsibility of everyone to protect the inheritance (Xing, 2014). Evolution of Advancement (A) The Great Wall of China provided a foundation for the development of modern Chinese civilization. The image of the Great Wall created an ultimate symbol for both Chinese civilization and China. Being the ancient civilization on earth, China placed scientific improvement and influenced by globalized modernity, this led to the development of inspiration among several students to develop scientific knowledge and gain information on Chinese civilization. The Great Wall is symbolizing the diligence and perseverance of the Chinese civilization. The foundation of modern Chinese civilization is heavily influenced by core values and traditional Chinese culture (Yin, 2012). (B) The growth of modern China is signified by the fundamental point of development of The Great Wall of China. The Great Wall played a pivotal role on the development of Chinese economy. Throughout the history of China, several settlements, canals, roads has been built by the garrison troops. This sort of undertakings significantly assisted to upsurge the cultural exchange and trade of China. Peasants, builders, artisans, garrisons and farmers left several trail of objects such as written work, inscribed tablets, etc. which are viewed as valuable objects for the part of a study of archaeological evidences. All these valuable evidences are regarded as the vital for the existence of one of the greatest architectural structure in the world. Being the historical place for tourism, the Great Wall of China has lasted in to the modern times. The growth of modern China is effectively influence by the existence of one of the ancient civilization. Chinese civilization is one of the greatest ancient civilizations which made innumerable influence to the world. Some of the contributions are noodle, compass, gunpowder, paper money, porcelain and other necessary things of every human being. Many great works on architecture such as The Great Wall of China and countless contribution has benefited towards the growth of modern China. Conclusion This can be concluded that the construction of mere architectural wonder, The Great Wall of China assists as a source of the modern culture of China. Moreover, the historical symbol of diligence and determination creates a sense of awareness among the modern Chinese culture to protect them from foreign invasion. The evolution of advancement of the Great Wall serves as testament for promotion of wealth and internal development of China. The improvement of Chinese economy is heavily influenced by the existence of The Great Wall of China.
