Leadership in Sustainability Certificate and Project Proposal al Affiliation) Leadership in Sustainability Certificate and Project Proposal I intend to meet the leadership requirement of the LiS by engaging in a major project, California High Speed Rail: A Smart Investment for the State’s Environment. The project will enable me to manifest my leadership in sustainability. Leadership is core in ensuring sustainability on the assigned project proposal. Hence, in the essay we will discuss the proposed project and the aspects of leadership with reference to the project. The paper will discuss the purpose, location, goals, and elements of measuring the progress of the project. The paper will also discuss the resources and partnerships that I will need with other students on campus to achieve my goals. The California High Speed Rail: A Smart Investment for the State’s Environment will take place in San Joaquin Valley. Ideally, the California High Speed Rail (CHSR) relates to the multibillion-dollar project that seeks to connect the various regions across California with minimal emissions. The issue at hand relates to the fact that the proposed California High Speed Rail has attracted diverse debates on its environmental impact. Many people consider the California High Speed Rail as a possible way for efficient and environmentally friendly long distance travels. However, opponents claim that the project will not be environmentally friendly. As such, our proposed project seeks to establish whether California High Speed Rail is environmentally friendly. The proposed project will equally allow me to manifest my leadership in sustainability. It is quite clear that building California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley will lead to detrimental environmental effects like air pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases. Moreover, the demolition, human activity, machine work, and other activities that define railway building will demean the benefits of the California High Speed Rail since they will lead to carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emissions. However, there are numerous benefits related to the proposed project. As such, it is necessary to investigate the result of the project since San Joaquin Valley is already heavily polluted. The goals of the project will include establishing the environmental impact of California High Speed Rail. Another goal relates to establishing the efficiency of the project. It will also involve establishing whether the project is economically viable. The proposed project will include five colleagues that will adopt different responsibilities to present a complete report of the project. In carrying out the project, I will require huge resources in terms of monies expertise, and research materials like questionnaires. In this context, I will assume my leadership position and lead my group to compare the impacts of different speed rails. However, in doing so, I will consider different modes of transport including buses, midsize aircrafts, and High-speed rail. I will also consider the occupancy levels of California residents and the sulfur dioxide emission of the proposed California High Speed Rail. The analysis of the connection time of buses and high-speed rail will be of essence to the project. Additionally, I will establish whether the net zero” emissions policy will be effective in California High Speed Rail. I will seek factual explanations on the fastest and safest mode of transportation. I will use questionnaires and surveys to collect this information. Moreover, California High Speed Rail will also help me to demonstrate leadership in sustainability in various ways to achieve a sustainable project. To start with, as the leader of the group, I ensured that all members attended a brainstorming session in order to come up with the way forward on how we were going to handle the project and finally come up with the best results. Additionally, I will ensure that my group is cohesive, cooperative, and objective. Teamwork, accountability, and professionalism will be the dominant aspects in carrying out the proposed project. All members of the group will take up different roles and responsibilities, which they should deliver according to the set timelines. Indeed, the different parts of the project will be allocated to different members who will conduct an extensive research on the areas of topic and deliver the final draft during our weekly discussions. Such areas will include economic analysis, financial analysis, labor analysis, and environmental analysis. Goals of the project Ideally, the California High Speed Rail project will require the team to come up with a final project that illustrates the environmental impact and effectiveness of a California High Speed Rail. The project will also ensure that students takes discipline interact with other students from other disciplines and deliver a final draft as a group. Additionally, the course aims at ensuring that all students taking this course interact with the society and environment and come up with a plan that will be used to improve nature and the well-being of the people. Impact of our work Different activities will characterize our work which we will conduct conducted as a group. Our main activity will be to organize an event whose aim was to analyze the environmental impact of the California High Speed Rail project in San Joaquin Valley. The main theme of the awareness campaign was to educate people on the need to adopt methods of transport that are environmentally friendly. Moreover, this relates to depicting the role of leaders and the local government in ensuring environmental sustainability. The events will take place in different parts of San Joaquin Valley where we will involve the local people. We will seek the residents’ views on the proposed California High Speed Rail as a possible way for efficient and environmentally friendly long distance travels. The residents will confirm whether the California High Speed Rail is environmentally friendly. The events will also include analyzing the environmental effects of the project by addressing the levels of greenhouse gases emitted by a California High Speed Rail. The project will equally focus on the factors that would limit the effectiveness of building California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley. The aim of the project to the local was to establish environmentally friendly and effective modes of transport. The implementation of the project will also entail organizing a conference for students of different disciplines especially the students studying urban planning, architecture and economics. These professionals will give their views on the economic and environmental impact of building the California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley. The views collected from the students will be fundamental in deriving detailed results for the proposed project. The conference will also involve all our supervisors who will give their views on the viability of building the California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley. Through incorporating all their ideas and suggestions, we will be able to come up with something standard for the final presentation. Throughout the conference, I will ensure that members of my team cooperate in order to be successful in our project. We will also organize a competition, which involves members of the group collecting different cases, which we analyzed as a group. We analyzed these cases using different models and frameworks, which gave us the best results, recommendation, and conclusions. A lot of creativity will be necessary to design different models as well as analyzing them in order to come up with the results (Redekop, 2010). We will also consult a number of non-profit making organizations who have been involved in different environment projects. The views of these organizations will nourish our report. I will also lead my group in organizing a multidisciplinary forum where members of different schools will come together and give their opinions in both environmental and leadership issues that may relate to building the California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley. Ultimately, I will establish a partnership with Abdallah Daboussi from Public policy department who will help me understand the government policies, policy issues, and financial aspects of building the California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley. We will measure our outcomes in different ways. Different stakeholders whom we involved during the project will receive our reports and recommendations. Our supervisor will gauge our report based on the project requirements. We can also measure our progress by analyzing how we managed to achieve our objectives. A successful project will clearly show the environmental impact of building the California High Speed Rail in San Joaquin Valley. Such a project will have addressed the project issue and the goals. Moreover, a successful project will have collected responses from different parties associated with the environment. The respondents must be a proper representation of the entire population residing in San Joaquin Valley. The attendance of our conferences, teamwork, quality contributions, and professional views will define the success of our project. Moreover, the adoption and implementation of our findings and recommendations will be a good measure of our outcome. Apparently, the project is very involving and technical and thus requires a leader in sustainability. To achieve this, I will allow all my team members to make their detailed contributions and consider the views of all respondents. I will also encourage the use of modern technologies to communicate, collect information, and analyze the collected data. Such technologies will include the internet, recorders, and social sites. Moreover, I will promote accountability and consistency in conducting the project. The team will also document and share the report with relevant authorities. Reference Redekop, B. W. (2010).
