Ethics and Professionalism in the Workplace It makes sense to discern the fact that different organizations operate quite distinctly. This does not mean that their working methodologies might not be similar but there are a number of similarities in their work ethics, styles, ways and means. It brings one to the point that these different organizations have managers who work solely for the distinctive functions within the various departments and it is up to these operational managers as to how they execute their undertakings and related measures on a regular basis. The basic purpose is to bring the entire list of activities and tasks of the organization on a common platform – a place from where the top management could better draft its policies and eventually execute a mechanism by which these policies are run, after the decisions are made on the varied aspects that have remained under consideration. Of late, there have been numerous problems for both men and women, working within the healthcare environments and hence the whole basis has called for distractions concerning the potential array of people with employment vacancies and ultimately their process of recruitment. Privacy for employees is something that holds immense importance since privacy is concerned with their individual self towards which they can relate best. Nobody likes to mingle and share his views in the workplace and more so when this individual sees his peers and subordinates for a stretched period of time, hence the repulsion seems natural. Everyone likes to share his cozy attitude in a soft and settled way and this is understandable since privacy is central to one’s individual self. The various rights of the employees within the workplace certainly make room for privacy as a major tenet within them since the top management knows that if the subordinates, middle management and the lower management are not at ease, then it is pretty difficult to extract the best possible work out of them and hence the efficiency levels will drop as a result of the same. Within the healthcare regimes, the code of ethics is indeed the code taken or applied by different healthcare facilities and institutions which eventually guides in the working and controlling of that corresponding work area. The code of ethics gives an overview of the responsibility and steps taken for the betterment of the working bodies. There are some codes, for which there are no penalties if any violation occurs. With respect to a business point of view, a code of ethics is usually a proper testimonial of the corresponding business organization containing its rules and issues. It is not astonishing that there is a large variety of code of ethics. Codes of ethics are written by different cluster of people for different cluster of people. Each cluster of people has its own reasons and goals on setting these codes. Employee motivation within the healthcare facilities works to the advantage of the institution and the people at the helm of affairs since they know for certain that their employees would give in their best no matter how trying or tough the circumstances are. This means that they are assured of their commitment levels and the intensity of the hard work that they will put in, even under the most strenuous of routines. But this raises an interesting proposition – a stance which needs to be discussed by all and sundry. Over work can reduce employee motivation as well as add to the stress on the part of the employees’ physical and mental domains. What needs to be done is to gauge the exact amount of work that they can handle within a time period as well as give them adequate incentives so that they remain loyal to the cause of the healthcare organization. If there is no privacy for the employees, they would not feel motivated to do their tasks and activities in an effective and efficient manner and it is ultimately the firm which will lose out on the productivity angle nonetheless. There are different instances in life where ethics plays a major role in decisions that we, as humans, make. Ethical decision making processes take place mostly when conclusions are reached that directly affect people. Ethics is defined as the branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of actions and the goodness and badness of motives and ends. This paints a pretty clear picture of what it means to undertake ethical decisions. It would be fairly easy to come up with the right verdict if thought is put into proper action. There is only one flaw in respect to this hypothesis; it does not always work. Managing the people is the domain of the manager and if or she does not fulfill the requirements as laid down in the book (governed by the company or the business itself), then this person has no right whatsoever to be remarked as the manager of the company’s individual units and entities. In societies, ethics are developed by their religious beliefs, government, and through experience. Social ethics serve as the premise for morality. Humans through ethics create morality, a personal or social code of conduct. The principles for one’s morality are founded by the ethical standards of their society. Through experience, education, religion, and morality humans develop morals based on social and religious ethics. Morals give humans the ability to distinguish the morally right/good decision to make when confronted with a moral dilemma. However, in some instances people are confronted with a morally problematic situation in which it is difficult to distinguish the morally correct solution. Morality and the demonstration of ethics run deep in an organization’s ability to exhibit the best of skills and abilities with the people, no matter where they hail from or come in contact with the company itself. An organization which can learn understands what its responsibilities are with regards to the society, the environment, its stakeholders and customers, its functions and different processes which have to be looked down upon at with a sense of ethics and legal predicaments attached. This means that the organization emancipates its working methodologies in line with its already set values and moral principles. Moreover, it knows what its obligations and compulsions are towards all the stakeholders at different levels. The organization is always willing and eager to learn from its mistakes, ready to bring in fresh changes within the processes and always encouraging its stakeholders and employees to invest more in terms of money and time, respectively. Managing an organization is also an important function which comes under the learning principles. It has case studies and best case scenarios to look up to whenever there is a problem or trouble at hand and it knows who the right person is to contact whenever there is some discrepancy within the system. Add to that the organization tries to keep its contacts, no matter in which capacity they are, at a maximal point and always keeps on increasing so as to become a socially active player within the relevant industry. This knowledge base has the role of continuously improving the systems and working methodologies. It is definitive to understand that not all the deeds of an organization be remarked as clean and fair – instead some of these are hidden from the common knowledge of even the workers working towards their motivational levels. Professionalism must remain the buzzword within such ethical domains. Thus it is in line with the office level hierarchy and the same must remain as the case since there is no alternative for workplace discipline and ethics. The different communication styles can only work to the advantage of all and sundry when there is a genuine effort on the part of the managers to make their workers feel at ease with the changing trends, rising pressure regimes and so on and so forth.
