All my life I have been taught that men are superior to women in one way or the other, which indeed is a bad way of putting males ahead of females. I believe there should be equality between the two genders and what this suggests is the fact that both should understand their due roles in the boundary of their respective genders. I learnt that gender is basically a difference between me being a female and a friend of mine who was a male. I am taught that it is not good to mingle and be friends with males but this takes a complete U-turn when it comes to females – with whom I can be friends for as much as I cared.I had a difficult time at understanding the difference between the two genders and the fact that being a female was such a hard thing to accept in our society. I always questioned the basis of me being a bit inferior to the male lot and asked the rationale behind the very same. The difference in gender provided me a basis of thinking my heart out on different issues – no matter how trivial they seemed like.
Gender to me was always a case of being masculine more than anything else and the word ‘gender’ was never associated with females for that matter. All I read in stories and newspapers was the common terminology of ‘him’ rather than changing it at times with ‘her’ as well. But this never happened.
