For this award, a maximum of $75,000 is made available every year to researchers who are interested in conducting advanced community-based research in the area of prevention and management of dental caries globally (International Association for Dental Research, 2011). The projects are strongly encouraged to be completed within a period of two years. The research proposals are reviewed for originality, innovativeness, evidence of institutional support, and budgetary emphasis on additional technical assistance, and investment in equipments.

Following the peer review, the IADR would decide to either provide a single award for $75,000 or multiple awards of smaller amounts but not exceeding a total of $75,000. The eligibility criteria require that the principal investigator be a current member of IADR and be affiliated with a non-profit academic institution of a non-governmental organization. No technical assistance would be available. Through this opportunity, oral health research can be funded as a stand-alone proposal, because this award specifically deals with dental caries prevention. 2. International Collaborative Oral Health Research Planning Grant: This grant is funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and encourages collaborative partnerships between international researchers.

The primary focus of this grant is on dental, oral, and craniofacial diseases and involves conducting research in the areas of community-based health promotion and disease prevention programs (National Institutes of Health, 2003). Eligible institutions include for-profit or non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, units of state and local governments, domestic or foreign, and faith-based or community-based organizations. Applicants can request up to $100,000 in direct costs per year for two years.

However, they are solely responsible for the planning, directing, and execution of the project. No technical assistance would be available. Through this opportunity, oral health research can be funded as a stand-alone proposal, because this award specifically deals with dental, oral, and craniofacial diseases. 3. National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities Community Based Participatory Research: This grant is funded by the National Institutes of Health for community-based participatory research that is conducted jointly by community members and researchers.

The scope of the grant includes behavioral and social sciences research (National Institutes of Health, 2007). Eligible institutions include for-profit or non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, units of state and local governments, domestic or foreign, and faith-based or community-based organizations. Applicants can request up to $400,000 in direct cost per year for five years. Since the nature and scope of research varies with each application, the size of each award varies.

Technical assistance is provided. Through this opportunity, oral health research can be funded either as a stand-alone proposal or incorporated into a broader proposal, as the scope of the grant is very wide.
