? Suicide Suicide Dynamics Of Suicide The term suicide is used to refer to an individual’s action of taking his/her own life. Suiciderates are quite high throughout the world and the WHO has established that around one million individuals commit suicide every year throughout the world (Jackson, 2009, p.257). Alone in the region of United states of America, around 80 to 90 individuals are committing suicide on daily basis which means that each year around 30000 individuals take their own life each year in the region of US (Suicide.org, 2013). Several researchers have studied the issue of suicide and have provided reasons and factors due to which individuals commit suicide. Several psychologists have proposed several reasons for why people commit suicide. According to Freud, an individual may end up committing suicide because he/she holds themselves responsible for issues and experiences in their life (James 2008, p.182). Suicide is even associated with the feeling of hopelessness, this is because an individual might desire certain outcomes and of he/she fails to achieve those outcomes and they may face hopelessness as they may not be able to change the scenario and may commit suicide. Similarly suicide can be a result of a loss of certain loved ones, and it is even said to be a method used by people to escape from issues and problems that may seem to be highly difficult for the person committing suicide. Suicide And The Moral Dilemma Suicide has different meanings for different cultures; the Eastern culture may view suicide as a method of getting rid of disgrace and embarrassment from the one who commits suicide and the family of those who commit suicide (James 2008, p.181). In the case of Western world, suicide is seen differently and it is regarded as an act of sin. Similarly religion even holds that committing suicide is a sinful act, this means that committing suicide is an act not liked by the God. Historically even suicide has been regarded as a negative act and was regarded as an act of self murder during the middle Ages and the act was considered as a crime. On one end is the fact that suicide is considered as a negative act, while on the other it can even be viewed as a method of helping terminally ill patients in getting rid of pain. This kind of suicide is considered as assisted suicide when a physician assists a patient in taking his/her own life. Assisted suicide is not legal in majority portion of the world, but it is well supported by those who believe that a person has a right to decide about his/her own life and death. Characteristics Of Those Who Commit Suicide Shneidman composed several characteristics that are associated with a person who is probably going to commit the act of suicide. He states that suicide is committed as a result of cognitive pain that is very hard for an individual to tolerate and the most common stressor shared by individuals who commit suicide is frustration caused due to failure of satisfying cognitive needs (James 2008, p.184). The reason why individuals commit suicide is that they believe that suicide is a solution to various issues and they may commit suicide because they may want to put an end to their consciousness. The most common emotional difficulty experienced by those who commit suicide is feeling of hopelessness as well as helplessness. An individual who may have committed suicide may have thought of conducting the act and at the same time would have wanted to be rescued. Those who may commit suicide may even report their plans to another individual and suicidal individuals may go through immense pain before finally conducting the action. Similarities between suicide and homicide Suicide and homicide may seem quite different from each other, but have ample amount of similarities. A person committing a suicide takes his own life and the person committing a suicide takes another individuals life, but both have the similarity of taking life. Those who are suicidal and homicidal are individuals who are quite violent in nature and may have a prior history of hurting themselves in way or another (James 2008, p.185). Those who commit homicide even may end up killing themselves because of several reasons while guilt being the primary reason and these individuals may have a very aggressive nature which is quite hard to control. Those committing suicide or homicide always have a reason linked to it, for example: a person committing homicide may have financial issues and may be committing homicide to gain financial advantage and a person committing suicide may even have financial issues and may believe that conducting suicide is a solution. Both suicidal and homicidal share the commonality of using a lethal way of killing oneself or another individual, a suicidal individual may stab himself and the homicidal may stab someone else. Use of Triage Assessment Form Counselors need to respond to the issues of their clients in a timely manner and they need to ensure that the amount of help they are providing is appropriate. Due to this they need to make assessment of the severity of the issue experienced by their client and in order to calculate the severity of their patients they use a triage assessment form. This assessment form will help interventionists in identifying what they need to perform as soon as they receive the patient or come in contact with them (James 2008, p.191). There are several ways to figure out the severity of the issue experienced by their client, but most of these assessment methods are quite slow and lengthy. Suicidal are people who need instant intervention from the end of the interventionist and thus there is a need to identify the severity of their case in the minimum amount of time. These assessment forms are not only used by the interventionist, they are even used by law enforcement agencies and the form they use is a checklist and these are even used by students. Basically these forms help the interventionist in identifying the severity of the crises through quantitative methods.
