Sur 24 November Feng Shui and How to Create Balance in the Environment Using this Traditional Chinese Practice Introduction: The concept of Feng Shui has been variedly described by different theorists. It has been considered as an inspiration to make people exist in a balanced environment. Theorists believe that it leads to a balance between “Wind and Water” (Hoover, 1-2). Other studies explain the concept being able to provide human beings with opportunities to live in a better environment through proper arrangement of home and workplace (Hoover, 2). In the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the practices of Feng Shui measures played a major role and provided with significant therapies of treating disorders (Ericksen, 148). The current study focuses on the association of the Chinese medicine and Feng Shui and the treatment of disorders, cancer being the chosen disorder of study. The report would focus on the cancer disorder and discuss the various therapies made available for treatment and learn about their effectiveness. The study would be concluded with a brief summary and evaluation of the research conducted. Chinese Medicine and Feng Shui: The TCM or the traditional Chinese medicines are dedicated towards understanding the lives of human beings such that they can be provided with required environment for an improved living. Thus the “natural system” of treatment by the Chinese medicines included various therapies like “I Ching, acupuncture, herbal medicine, qigong (chi kung), nei dan, feng shui, astrology, and Taoist yoga” (Twicken). These theories explain how the universe presents its rules and values and provide with measures to apply them in the personal lives of human beings (Twicken). Feng Shui represents the “art of arranging your home and workplace” intending to improve the lifestyle and such arrangement are supposed to be made in accordance with the effects of the stars and other elements of the universe (Hoover, 2). The beliefs of the TCM have been observed to be in tune with the predictions of the Feng Shui practices reflecting “astrology, geomancy, numerology, and sortilege” (Hoover, 103). The medical practitioners following Feng Shui methods are experts in providing with effective suggestions of the use of Chinese herbs that are expected to treat several illnesses. In this regard, it can also be realized that human beings are capable of accepting the methods of treatment since herbs being natural elements would not lead to any harm to the human body. However since certain natural ingredients are not suitable for consumption, the practitioners also need to take care that patients without having prior knowledge do not intake them (Hoover, 103-104). I Ching and Nei Jing are the two Chinese philosophical classics that reflect the fundamentals of the practices of Feng Shui. These philosophies present the association of the Feng Shui with the traditional Chinese medicines and treatment of disorders (Twicken). TCM Treatments: Therapies and Methods under Feng Shui Practice: The various therapies presented by the TCM and used on connection with the practices of Feng Shui are Acupuncture and Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Chiropractic Therapy, Chromotherapy, Crystal and Gemstone Therapy, Homeopathy, Hypnotherapy, Light Therapy and few others (Weissberg, 4-11). However, the focus of the current study being the practices of Feng Shui, the therapies available by Feng Shui in the treatment of diseases, particularly cancer, as chosen for the study, would be discussed here. The treatment therapies provided by the Feng Shui practices are mostly based on the attainment of harmony within the human body as well as in the external environment. The world and its environment being affected by several negative attributes, the Feng Shui treatments tend to deliver by performing to change the negatives in to the positives. The primary target for the Feng Shui therapies is to maintain the flow of energy within the human body that is considered as Chi by the traditional Chinese medicine (Hoover, 13). One of such treatments made available by the Feng Shui practices is the use of crystals or the crystal therapy. In order to keep the Chi or the body energy effective in its functioning, the crystals may be placed in the rooms of the patient according to the proper locations as determined by the Feng Shui studies. Crystals might also be used in direct touch with the body, as for example, one can wear crystal necklaces as well for the same purpose of treatment. Another therapy suggested by the Feng Shui practices involves the use of magnets referred to as pulsating electromagnetic therapy. The different techniques under this therapy include the EKG, EEG and MRI. However it has been reflected that although these techniques are believed to provide reprieve to pains or diseases like arthritis, make the conditions of the health better, provide cure for the deadly disease of cancer as well as heal other various illnesses of the human beings, yet the use of magnets light prove to be difficult and problematic (Hoover, 13-140). There are other alternative therapies available as well in the Feng Shui practices in traditional Chinese medicines. Meditation is one such therapy. According to the practices followed by the Feng Shui, there are different forms of meditation that have the ability to provide relief to patients suffering from diseases. Such meditative measures might include sitting quietly and relaxing, or it might also include walking long distances while planning for some issue within the mind, and so on. Another therapy in Feng Shui practice is the polarity therapy that involves reflexology, massage and touch of therapy all combined together. This technique aids the patients by giving them a feeling of relief from their sufferings, cleaning away toxic materials from the bodies and facilitating the unhindered flow of the energy within the body. Reflexology involves pressurizing certain reflexive points in the human body that helps in breaking up amassing of granular particles, and thus maintaining the energy balance within the body. Although the process has not been observed to cure any particular disease, yet it has been found to provide relief to the stress caused by the illness (Hoover, 143-147). Reiki is another method that provides with the supply of energy in the body. In this process the use of hands is done in the healing of diseases. The Feng Shui practitioners supporting this method believe that this therapy is capable of treating any illnesses of the human body. However studies have been conducted on the process that has not obtained any successful conclusions to the actual benefits of the process. Moreover, it has been found that Reiki might prove to be highly hazardous for the physical as well as mental health of the patients (Hoover, 147). The different therapies under the Feng Shui practices are followed by followers of Feng Shui, even if their actual effects on the treatment of diseases might not have obtained, however it is of primary belief that the processes have been successful in relieving the patients of the stress and the psychological suffering that they suffer owing to the diseases. Feng Shui has been obtained to consider one significant fact in this regard that it is only the human beings who have the ability to heal them. This focuses on the responsibility of the individuals rather on other sources of treatment for the actual cure from any disease (Hoover, 148). Thus the various therapies available in the Feng Shui practices can be studied from the above mentioned methods and processes that mostly work on the beliefs of the Feng Shui practitioners and the followers towards attaining relief for the patients. The cure of cancer, in this regard, can be understood to not being able to be cured completely. However, the Feng Shui practices in the traditional Chinese medicines might provide the patients with greater reliefs from stress and psychological suffering. Conclusion: The research study has obtained that Feng Shui practices are focused towards making the lives of human beings better by providing them with improved measures of health care and better arrangement of home and workplace. In the traditional Chinese medicine, the practices of Feng Shui proved to be significant since based on the concepts, several therapies and methods are available to provide relief to the patients. The methods of each of the therapy have also been discussed in the report that imply the different use of concepts in effectively processing the flow of Chi, or the important source of energy within the human body to keep the individuals in an improved state of health.
