John O’Donnell Washington POST United s APR-14 Health Care in the U.S Dear Editor, Many people have been deprived of the health care each needs. This has caused a human rights crisis due to its health insurance system. There are availability of resources and record levels of on health care spending the crisis persists. The person who gets ill and the one who receives access to quality care is strongly influenced by social determinants. Some of them are income, race and environment. The under-resourced communities and the disadvantaged groups are affected disproportionately due to this health care crisis.

Such people that are affected are those living in poverty, color people and the Immigrants. This health care crisis is as a result of privatization and commodificatin of the U.S health system, which has brought barriers. These barriers are accessing care, medical debts and shortage of primary care providers which affect all people. All this reflects market imperatives and profit interest which in turn devalue human needs, dignity and equality. There have been many outcomes due to health care system failure in U.S.First of all; compared to other countries, U.

S has a higher infant mortality and lower life expectancy. Also it has the highest rate of maternal mortality not forgetting the highest rate of C-Sections among the high-income countries in the world. Finally about 45000 people die every year due to no health insurance. Some of the barriers are U.S has fewer doctors and nurses compared to other high-income countries. Hospitals and doctors are located in wealthy areas and the public hospitals available are closing down in the areas that are most needed.

It has the lowest infrastructure compared to high-income countries. Also many people are not insured and those that are insured forego care due to high deductibles and co-pays. Disparities in access to health care: Increased restriction to those services only women use is violated. Also immigrants on arrival are usually healthy than average citizens but their health tends to deteriorate the longer they remain in the country. Also the rights of the people of the color are violated by being offered low quality care like treatment of cancer, heart failure and pneumonia.

The government should try harder and focus more on improving health by coming up with new measures which will help improve. This will save many people and one way of succeeding is through eliminating the barriers. John O’Donnell Washington State Work Cited Publishaletter: Washington. Created: Mar.19.2011.
