14 January Personal ment: Back in September I was blessed with a riveting and valuable opportunity to work as a medical assistant at Ecino Medical Urgent Care. My work experience at this modestly reputable medical center lasted for 2050 hours, but during that period I not only developed a close familiarity with the job criteria of a physician but also directly addressed a huge assortment of multiple kinds of intricate and arduous tasks as a medical assistant. From relatively minor tasks like taking blood pressure, temperature, and weight of the patients, I gradually advanced to more hardcore medical practices like helping with surgeries and ECG Dysrhythmia Interpretation. Functioning as an active assistant unequivocally added an indefinite weight to my learning experience and also grounded my desire to become a physician. I consider my work as a medical assistant at Ecino Medical Urgent Care crucially beneficial because I did not operated there as a silent observant, but keenly interacted with patients face to face. Not just that but I learnt that myriad things in addition to consultancy and surgeries constitute the job criteria of a physician like filling documents, answering phones, and designing charts. In a nutshell, I managed to acquire a firm grasp on several different areas like clinical procedures, interaction with patients, and maintaining optimum work quality thanks to Ecino Medical Urgent Care. It is certainly a blessing that I got to appreciate many rare clinical disorders in a practical way. I also learnt how professionalism and sound interaction with patients foster quality care. It is understandably quite natural for every family to have a varying set of desires and ideas. Any profession or field of work which is fervently hunted in one household might not be preferred by another family. My family in particular always cherished a big spot for all professions associated with the science field in their hearts. This common pattern of eyeing all occupations related to the science field with some especial amount of reverence and longing also managed to inculcate some raw passion for scientific knowledge and medical field inside my mind. I can only say that this raw passion instilled in my heart by my parents for medical sciences in my early years only grew up to become more refined and sophisticated with passing time. Childhood memories definitely play a crucially important role in a rather subtle way to make up a person’s mind about what he/she would want to do as an adult. How my parents inordinately valued this type of knowledge and how passionately they conversed about it indisputably worked to fixate my attention on the medical field. One thing I consider worth mentioning here is that when I say my parents clearly played a significant role in drawing my attention towards the medical field, I do not mean that I started seeking such occupations only to please my parents and satisfy their covetousness for science. Rather, I dreamed about becoming a physician as an adult because this interested me personally more than anything. I directed all efforts at achieving this goal because I found this really compelling and important. The principal objective I hope to achieve from my relentless efforts and ceaseless ambitiousness in the context of medical sciences include attending some reputable medical school. I fervently want to transform this long-cherished desire of my life into a practical source of happiness. I want to become a doctor because this would prodigiously help in gratifying not only my long-held passion for medical sciences, but also my parents’ who would be absolutely delighted if I manage to achieve this goal of my life one day. However, I have no intentions whatsoever to culminate my journey of seeking more valuable knowledge after medical school because this would mean an early tragic death of a raw and barely-able-to-walk passion. I have intentions of transforming my desire into a full-blown passion, one that would never die as long as I live. For this purpose, I intend to continue my journey from the medical school to acquiring not only a Ph.D. but also an M.D. because only then would I get really able to claim that I have managed to live my dream for real. However, all this future planning really boils down to work hard enough to score good enough grades in the college because only that would substantially assist me in getting admission in a medical school which is both astoundingly challenging and fiercely competitive. I immeasurably understand that to reach my dream, I have to attend college first and score really good grades. Moving from Iran to the US has not remained for me a journey devoid of substantial experiences or difficulties. Though the language barrier I was exposed to after newly moving to the US did not totally got me off guard as I had some idea about the depth of this problem, it was only after actually landing in a new place that I realized the importance of the English language and what role a fine grasp on it could play in my professional advancement. Initially the language problems tried holding me back from struggling towards my desired goals, but after a while I managed to get strong enough to retaliate back to the mounting pressure in an effective way. The constant support of my teachers and parents worked to help me in beating this challenge also until the language difficulties became an old story. My passion for hitting the intended objectives was and is inexorable which is why I became able to reach the heights in my high-school. But, I must admit that it was only after starting my college in 2010 that I really geared all possible efforts towards becoming a professional doctor. In the process I have also been awarded an honors medal by my college for accomplishing a full-time semester with 3.5 GPA or higher. A modest proof of my hard work and relentless courage is that apart from excelling in my college studies, I also managed to tutor at Pierce’s EOP&S as a way of helping other students with their studies. I always imagined that the route to becoming a doctor will not be a bed of roses. I had arrived in the US some years back as a naïve and shy novice, but over time owing to determination, commitment, and perseverance I not only shined in my own studies but also tutored students outside the college. This continuous struggle and the related consequences in a sense make me quite confident and satisfied that I will always be able to defeat every challenge I may encounter in the future in the process of reaching my goals. The journey of a physician, on a similar note, is laden with tedious difficulties and challenges which is why I presume all the financial and educational hardships I have experienced as yet to be an added benefit because they have in a way given me an idea of what my life is going to be in the future. In order to take some burden off of my parents’ shoulders, I skipped my senior year in the high-school to get started on my college education early on so that the distance between my education and landing a job could be reduced. This is also primarily why I am so bent on working hard enough to reach faster towards acquiring the degree. I believe that my decision to skip my senior year at high-school proved to be quite beneficial for me in the context of starting on my college education early on. My academic interests at USC are related to Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in particular. It is worth mentioning that my interest in specifically this field developed naturally over time, partly due to my inherent curiosity about science and partly due to constant encouragement I received from my parents. If scrutinized from a practical perspective, I realize that Health Promotion and Disease Prevention will prepare me well for medical school. From an intellectual perspective, I know that I will gain personal satisfaction from immersing myself in a subject I admire. Truth is that I do not make this statement based on blind speculation alone, but based on past experiences and valuable interactions with other people. Over the course of last several years, I have actively explored different fields of science. Apart from engaging in core science courses at Pierce College, I have also worked as a tutor inside and outside my college. Thanks to a notable thirst for knowledge, I even managed to impress a series of doctors at Providence Tarzana Medical Center including cardiologists and anesthesiologists. I also volunteered to work for over a year as a medical assistant in Encino under the mentorship of Dr. Hedvat. Through this riveting combination of academic study and work experiences, I have been able to make connections between the intellectual and practical sides of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. In a nutshell, I luckily have had the crucially important benefit of working under reputable experts and professionals which has strongly grounded both my desire to work in the medical field and my choice of majoring at USC.
