Even today, the US through its security agencies such as the CIA, the FBI and NSIS work day in day out to ensure that the country is safe from acts of terrorism. Being a superpower and its activities in the Middle East has made the US one of the targets of terrorists as they try to revenge. Another country that is currently affected by international terrorism is Kenya, which was once hit in 1998 causing the death of many people. Kenya has had to deal with the Al-Shabaab militants both within its territories and in Somalia to ensure that they are flashed out completely.

The fight against terrorism as shown by these two countries has clearly indicated that international tourism is a critical issue that must be addressed effectively. However, one significant issue that seems to arise is that international tourism can never be completely erased. Description of the Articles International terrorism as an issue that causes pain to people and destruction of property has attracted authors and writers to investigate the issue and write about it. The media is one important agent that has helped inform the public on the goings-on with respect to terrorism and how security agents respond to it.

The New York Times is one of the media platforms where international terrorism is covered. On March 25, 2013, The New York Times covered a story with the headline, “Terrorist Has Cooperated with U.S., since Secret Guilty Plea in 2011, Papers Show,” written by Benjamin Weiser. This report shows that a Somali Terrorist who was captured by the US Navy in 2011 had pleaded guilty and has been cooperating with the security agencies in revealing information about terrorism. When the terrorist was arrested, a heated debate ensued with respect to the tactics that the Obama administration used for counterterrorism issues.

The New York Times reported that Ahmad Abdulkadir Warsame, who served as a military commander with the Al-Shabab in Somalia and a liaison with the Al Qaeda in Yemen had secretly pleaded guilty and cooperated with the security agencies. Citing unsealed court documents, the article states that Warsame had pleaded guilty in a closed court proceedings in Manhattan five months after his capture. The article also cites a letter from the United States attorney in Manhattan to a federal judge asking him to ensure that Warsame’s plea is confidential and that the plea was important for new investigation and new targets for the government.

The publicity of the plea would hurt the government’s ability to investigate and prosecute Warsame’s associates and act as a threat to his family (Weiser). The article also touches on the issue of the military and civilian court systems in handling terrorism cases. The article also includes the fact that Lee Ginsberg, Warsame’s lawyer refused to comment on the issue and that there are certain Americans who were involved in terrorism even travelling to Al Shabab camps in East Africa. The article also informs that Samir Khan, an American worked with Al Qaeda in Yemen before he was killed alongside Anwar Al-Awlaki, a senior Al Qaeda Operative (Weiser).

In Kenya, an article in the Saturday Nation, 27 April 2013 titled, “Two deny links to al-Shabaab group,” by the Nation Correspondent, stated that two people were arrested and charged in a Nairobi Court for
