Running head: Job analysis Job analysis and selection Introduction InterClean Inc is one of the major organizations in the sanitation and cleaning industry with high quality products and efficient workforce. Recently InterClean decided to merge with EnviroTech and, as a result, has taken on a new strategic direction. The company will no longer sell only cleaning products, but will also provide MI-service cleaning solutions for organizations in the health care industry. As a midlevel sales manager of InterClean, I wanted to select members for my sales team and create a development plan to help my team succeed with the companys new strategy. This paper explains various steps like job analysis, workforce planning, selection methods etc in order to succeed in my mission. Job analysis information Job Analysis is a process to identify the particular job duties and requirements and the relative importance of these duties for a given job. Job Analysis is a process where judgments are made about data collected on a job. Job is the important aspect than the person as far as an organization is concerned. Job analysis data may be collected from incumbents through interviews or questionnaires, the product of the analysis is a description or specifications of the job, not a description of the person. The purpose of Job Analysis is to establish and document the job relatedness of employment procedures such as training, selection, compensation, and performance appraisal (HR Guide to the Internet: Job Analysis: Overview, 1998).It is important for me to conduct a job analysis, being the midlevel sales manager of InterClean in order to formulate an effective sales team for achieving our sales target. Workforce planning Workforce is one of the core elements of every successful organization or business. No organization can devalue the importance of workforce in their developments. Even though all the employees in an organization have almost equal importance in the growth of the organization, sales force definitely has an edge over others. No organization can grow properly if their product or services experience lack of aggressive marketing force. So while formulating a sales team for InterClean, I must consider all the aspects of the current market trends and business scenarios. Planning marks the beginning of every business activity. Lack of planning always creates problems later. Workforce, in this case sales force must be planned thoroughly after analysing the current requirement of the industrial cleaning business opportunities. It is not necessary that a person excelled in one organization may excel in another organization. He/she should be flexible enough to work in a multi-organizational environment. There should be a fit between the intended strategy of an enterprise and the characteristics of the people who are expected to implement it and hence workforce planning is essential for a sales team’s success. Selection method or criteria I would like to select employees for my team based on their experiences, culture, age etc. I need the blend of fresh and experienced blood in my team. I know that freshers or youths alone cannot meet the targets. It is important to analyze the ideas generated by the youths through the perspectives of experience in order to study the practicability of those ideas and for that purpose my team should have the services of both youths and the experienced ones. Also because of globalization, most of the business activities are taking place on international level and hence a diverse team is essential for me. My selection of employees in my team and justification for the selection Tom Gonzalez –Sales manager Being a midlevel sales manager, I need another sales manager under my control in order to distribute my job functions. I wanted to give the responsibility of supervising the selling of the newly incorporated products to the new sales manager. I would like to include Tom Gonzalez in my team as the sales manger because of his positive approach to customers compared to Shane Huck. Moreover, he is well experienced in selling the product of EnviroTech and hence need less training or instructions from me. In other worlds, he can start straightaway. His vast experience in industrial cleaning industry would definitely fruitful to my team. Mark Pierce - Outside Sales Representative I would like to include Mark in my team as the outside sales representative because of his young blood, sound health, enthusiasm and positive attitudes and approaches towards marketing. Moreover, being a Caucasian male, he can definitely add diversity to my team’s effort to penetrate into the market. Susan Burnt- Outside Sales Representative A matured lady will definitely add more variety to the team and from my sales experience; I can safely say that in order to deal with some particular clients, a female sales representative is essential for any kind of organization. Susan is aggressive in closing the sale, and also understands the importance of providing excellent "after the sale" service (from her previous roles in Customer Service, Collections, Purchasing, and Distribution). Age is the only drawback I find in her, but I feel I can utilize her vast experience judiciously without troubling her with tough assignments. Also I feel that my team should need the blend of fresh and experienced blood in order to take correct decisions and in that respect Susan will definitely an asset to my team. Eric Borden - Outside Sales Representative Eric is the fourth person I am going to include in my team. Eric is a 41 year-old African-American male who has a solid reputation for servicing the customer and helping the customer get the best products for the best prices. During his 14 years with the company, in addition to performing his duties as a sales rep, Eric has performed the role of team leader on several special projects which contributed to the financial growth of EnviroTech. Again for making the team more diverse and to perform marketing in a multicultural environment, I think the presence of Eric is essential in my team. Ving Hsu- Outside Sales Representative Ving is the fifth and last person I would like to include in my team. Being a 42 year-old Asian male, I think he can explore the Asian markets more effectively for the company. Ving enjoys working with customers and performs training seminars on a regular basis in order to help train the employees of his customers. Customers know that if there is a problem they cannot handle, they can contact Ving. Conclusions Job analysis and selection is an important management function normally performed by the senior managers. Job analysis is essential for identifying and posting talents in the desired positions for the growth of an organization. Not the person, but the job is important for an organization and hence right person at the right place will always beneficial to an organization. References 1.
