LO 1: Apply critical thinking and communications skills to solve problems they are likely to encounter in the workplace. Evidence : SIT 223 Reflective Practice Case study: As I joined the LIONEL LI Company I found that the workplace was not working well and the staff had very bad communication with the supervisors and the other staff. This poor communication made the company not to perform well. With reference to the problem this is what I did: i. I was able to make the people (the staff and the supervisor) to understand that when making communication with each other such that other people within the organization understand what they are hearing. This will give an option of an individual to say I misunderstood or no one told me that or I have understood. ii. I was able to give the staff a lecture that everyone should be able to be truthful and direct to what they say or write in the workplace so that one is not misunderstood. This skill is obtained from what we learned in class that an effective communication needs trust and directness. iii. I also taught the people in the company on the various ways to present information since this was one of the biggest problems that staff had. I informed the people that communication needs to be condensed into facts so that the message is understood and received. On addition, I had to teach the staff on how to format and present information n a good manner. Proper presentation is one of the factors that lead to effective communication that we learned in class. iv. I had to advice the management of the company that the problem of communication that is occurring in the company was due to poor organization structure. Outcomes The organization was able to pick very well after the implementation of the thing I was able to deliver to them. The following are the outcomes: i. Stronger problem solving and decision making was developed in the organization. ii. There was upturn in the productivity iii. There was a clear and a more streamlined workflow The lesson learned form the experience at the workplace was that the todays work place is changing a lot and that learning of effective communication will assist to adopt to the changing environment. Experiences My experience in the communication make up of the organization was a great challenge to me since there are those that didn’t have an interest in understanding the benefits of good communication to themselves and the company. LO 2: Apply appropriate methods to prepare for and participate in a simulated job interview. Evidence SIT 223 Case Study In the organization, there was a problem with dealing with interviews with psychiatric disabilities. On my first month working with the company, there was an interview conducted to get additional staff and the company faced a lot of problems to get the best interview from those that had psychiatric problems. Reflective essay A job interview is an important process towards employment and faces a significant challenge to those with psychiatric disabilities. I had to provide my relevant skills obtained in the course to be able to solve this problem in the organization. I had to develop simulated job interview skills software that provided virtual experiences with learners who can improve job interview skills, reduce fear, and increase the confidence on going for job interviews. Through the assistance of the company I organized a workshop that students and others that needed this skills mostly the able to be taught this skills. This software was described and the results had both feasibly and tolerably done to 30 participants with psychiatric disability. Outcomes The results of the sample showed that there was positive response since there found it easy to use and found the software useful. Almost all those that come to the especially for those with psychiatric disabilities become more skilled. They so the benefit of using the software I developed. Experience I enjoyed the stay at the organization after I developed software to help in interviews and it was a success to the company. With this I was awarded for the efforts by promising me a job at the company when I finish school. LO 3: Apply the principles of group development when participating in team work. Evidence SIT 223 Reflective Practice: Case study: There is a complete confusion in the company in that every individual worked independently. This has led to the downfall of the company in terms of production. Reflective Essay For me to be able to help the company to solve this problem above I had to incorporate the following: i. Communication: I had to encourage critical listening and discussion skills to those groups that are trying to difficult and different tasks. Form the course we were taught that the foundation of teamwork is establishment of effective communication. ii. Team skills: I was able to develop the team skills of every staff and individual in the organization since through the experiences that I have with the company each individual can be able to accomplish more as a team member than as an individual and this was only possible through gaining of the team skills. iii. The trust level of the individuals in the company had gone down and it was up to me as the networking administrator to be able to look at this matter with care since the future of the company lied on the trust based between the staff members. I had to develop this through first of improving individual trust. iv. Decision making: I had to develop the decision making skills between the staff members by allowing each members of the staff to contribute towards and ideal that can develop the company. This was helped by introducing suggestion boxes to those that had fear of direct communication. Outcomes Through the development of good group development, the team spirit was boosted and the was reflected directly in the company profit tax. Experience As a human being this decision making skills helped me as a student and a future administrator to be able to know the power of good decision making, group development and team work. LO 4: Demonstrate the ability to be productive in a dynamic environment. Evidence: SIT 223 Reflective Practice Case Example The company was not in a position of changing to the emerging technology that the world is facing today, for example the company was using the oldest versions of windows and there server was very slow. Most of the software’s like the accounting software were obsolete. Reflective Essay With the emerging changes in the technology I had to update the company’s operating systems to the current ones like Ubuntu and Windows 7 which had professional feature. I was also able to advice the management to upgrade the management to use MRTG software to upgrade the server with that of high speed. The organization had to change to the new trends so as to remain effective in the competitive market and to improve on the production. In this view, I had to teach the members of the organization on how to get access to organization readiness and have the ability to facilitate change. Outcomes The company improved its day to day work speed especially with the secretaries who used the latest Windows systems hence a change in section of the organization later transfigured to company success. Experiences My application of formatting the computers as taught in class was tested in the field practice and this made me proud of the classroom content since it found an outside application LO 5: Apply the principles embodied in the ACS codes of ethics and professional practice to understand the ethical behaviours and social responsibility required of IT professionals. Evidence: SIT 223 Reflective Practice Reflective Essay I was able to mobilize members of the IT department in the organization to be able to get back and adhere to the professional form and integrate information technology to the social arena in the best professional manner. The use if IT in the company was mostly used to address the concern of member’s problems since myself and other members of the staff designed a website where we shared our views about the company interest. The integration of IT to the social responsibility is guided by several principles like that professionalism and that of primacy of the public interest. Outcomes The problems of the company as well as individual problems were addressed using IT such as the use of the Website developed. This improved the communication of the members. Experience The use of IT to the society gave me an upper hand to integrate with the social world and also learned how well IT can change or affect the running of the organization. LO 6: Demonstrate the capacity to judge and constructively critique their own and others work. Evidence: SIT 223 Reflective Practice: Reflective Essay This is the helpful suggestion. An encouragement is offered to critical recipients and critics to work as a team; in their own way and responsible. I offered suggestions to the critics on how to useful construct criticism and the suggestions. It’s said that all of us offer judgment about our values, behaviors and beliefs, some of our judgments are well thought and others are spontaneously given. In the research arena critics is very important to be able to give room for greater reasoning over a researched work.
