Why did you opt to be a pharmacist instead of any other profession?

In high school, I developed an interest in biological sciences and influenced by the need to help save lives, and I decided to pursue pharmacy degree in college.

What were the main academic qualifications and skill set requirements for this position?

It took me a little more time to be a pharmacist because I had to register for the one-year undergraduate course before enrolling for the pharmacy course which also took another four years to complete. Additionally, there are some post graduate courses that complements this career. I have masters in pharmacy and a one-year residency program in a hospital setting.

Are there any challenges that you meet on a daily basis in your capacity as a pharmacist?

Yes. This job requires one to be available all the time whenever needed. This may put a toll on your life especially if you are a family person. Sometimes you get called in the middle of the night to attend to a patient. Besides that, the profession is dynamic and requires one to be constantly updated because each day there is a new drug.

Are you saying that you always work overtime?

Yes. If there is no other person to hold the shift for you

What kind of scenario have you ever been into, that you believe the most difficult?

When I volunteered to serve people who were suffering from Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The demand for the service was enormous with different pharmaceutical Companies releasing trial drugs which we had to be knowledgeable about every day. I had to be reading while also serving the potentially contagious and one of the fatal diseases to ever exist. I witnessed a lot of people crying and dying in pain, a site no one should ever witness.

What do you love or hate about your job most?

I love the fact that we save lives and that my profession puts me to work together with teams of visionary individuals in various experiments that contribute towards eradication of diseases. I, however, hate the fact that I have less time for my family.

Does your job affect your personal life in any way?

Yes.

My reaction:

I learned that to be a pharmacist; one has to be ethical and selfless in addition to hard work. The interview was insightful as I learned that despite the fact that one may be working overtime already, still volunteering to help save people's lives is equally satisfying.

Interview #3

Name: Mark Lee

Position: Director of Criminal Investigation Colorado

Organization: Homeland Security

Date: 05/04/16

Why did you opt to be in the security sector instead of those that are better paying?

Sometimes life is not all about how fat your wallet is. I grew up in a neighborhood where the crime was routinely perpetrated by dangerous goons, yet sometimes the innocent got arrested while the perpetrators remained to roam the streets. So I promised myself to one day change this if I ever got the opportunity to.

What were the main academic qualifications and skill set requirements for this position?

For the start, not much is required although basic secondary education is mandatory. However, the position I hold right now requires some college degree and experience. I have a degree in forensic science and a diploma in criminology. Also, proven track record in successfully prosecuted cases is needed for my position.

Are there any challenges that you meet on a daily basis in your capacity as a criminal investigation officer?

Yes. My job puts me in the line of fire every day with people who would not hesitate to fire a deadly bullet just to prevent justice from being done. Also, we are always on alert for criminals out to retaliate for putting their members behind bars, so even my family sometimes are not the safest citizens despite their father being an officer at the Justice Department. I'm also required to be available for work anytime any day meaning even while on leave, I can always be recalled to attend to a matter of security.

Are you saying that you always work overtime?

Yes. For security officers, you are on leave or off duty as long as you are not needed.

What kind of scenario have you ever been into, that you believe the most difficult?

When I had to convict my cousin for participating in an illegal activity that led to the death of an innocent passerby. I could protect him but chose to be just and follow the law. I still don't know if it was worthwhile.

What do you love or hate about your job most?

I love the job because, with my position, I can always "take away" criminals whenever they come up making the street safe again. I, however, hate it that I'm always a bull's eye for criminals out for revenge, something that extends to my family members.

Does your job affect your personal life in any way?

Yes. Check above

My reaction:

From my interview with Mark Lee, I could not help but sympathize with him. Until then, I dint realize that sometimes our security forces are the most vulnerable to criminals than us whom they endeavor to protect with their lives. I don't know if I could be as good as Mark to the extent of putting my relatives behind bars. Nevertheless, making a positive impact in the community should inform our actions just like Mark Lee.

Interview #4

Name: Stevenson Abel

Position: Chief Marketing Officer

Organization Name: Lenovo Company

Date: 20th /03/16

Why did you opt to be a marketer instead of any other profession?

My plan was not to be a marketer. I trained to be an administrative manager. I, however, love my current position.

What were the main academic qualifications and skill set requirements for this position?

When I joined the company in the capacity as an administrative assistant, we were subjected to internal training designed to make us capable of holding any operational management positions. Besides my degree in administrative management, the company sponsored our training in sales and marketing. Currently, I have two degrees in Sales and Marketing Management and Administrative Management in addition to CPA. Additionally, I have Master's in business administration and a certificate in computer applications.

Are there any challenges that you meet on a daily basis in your capacity as an accountant?

Yes. Every management level is faced with one. I have to make decisions that have an impact on the company's revenue sometimes based on my instinct when faced with limited data, something I will be held responsible to.

How long do you work per day? Do you work overtime?

Yes. Sometimes I work overtime when the need arises. The company, however, compensates very well should such situations arise. Normally I work eight hours per day but may chase some business opportunities even during weekends as dictated by clients.

What kind of scenario have you ever been into, that you believe the most difficult?

When I had to fire one of my staff who performed poorly in almost everything for two years to set an example to others. I had to "hook" her with another job elsewhere because I could not live with the guilt of ruining someone's life. Fortunately, she is doing great there.

What do you love or hate about your job most?

My job makes me travel a lot exposing me to a lot of cultures and new things that can improve my skills. I, however, hate the part where I have to drop my personal relationship with my colleagues and play the tuff manager in the office.

Does your job affect your personal life in any way?

Not much.

My reaction:

The interview reminded me of my former supervisor in the company I worked at as a volunteer who also had to recommend a transfer of a friend from her team because the friend was not taking her serious. Managers are humans too and balancing the human part, and the obligation to the company sometimes becomes difficult. However, I think that in the office, there should be no interpersonal relationships since this may be abused by less careful colleagues. Nevertheless, firing a person without warning or trying other methods to motivate him/her is a little harsh. Nevertheless, I would also do the same should I find myself in such position after giving warnings.

Interview #5

Name: Tom Hoff

Position: Computer Science Graduate

Organization: California University

Date: 27th /03/16

Why did you opt to study Computer Engineering instead of any other course?

I have been good with computers since my infancy. In fact, my peers even nicknamed the "geek of the hood" because of my skills with computers. This together with the encouragement from my uncle who owns a computer lab in the community, I was able to pay much attention to the qualifying subjects, and that is how I landed into the profession.

What were the main academic qualifications and skill set requirements for this course?

Just a pass in high school exams with a special focus on mathematics, physical sciences and chemistry. They wanted a high pass in sciences and mathematics.

Are there any challenges that you meet on a daily basis in your capacity as a computer engineer?

Professionally, yeah. I joined this course so I can help my community by offering solutions to their hardware and software problems so that hackers may not get access to their computers and steal their information. However, people still look at me as the hacker who i was, bringing in trust issues. Besides, sometimes some people want to misuse my talent for their self-interest.

What kind of scenario have you ever been into, that you believe the most difficult?

When I had to choose between being employed by a well-paying corporate job and joining my uncle in his company that helps the community I grew up in. Even though it was luring to join the corporate, world, I had made a promise to give back to the community first, and that is why I'm still here.

What do you love or hate about your job most?

Giving back to the community and knowing they are safe from unscrupulous hackers makes me happier. However, the job is a dull one because i only speak to machines, it's not social like other jobs in various fields.

Does your job affect your personal life in any way?

No. this is me, this is my personality, so maybe it compliments my personality… if so then yes, it affects my personal life (Name, 2016).

My reaction:

I had initially thought helping community could not be the number one reason why somebody chooses a course until my interview with Tom Hoff. He believes his talent can be more useful to the community that the corporations. Reflecting upon, me, I don't think I would have made his choice. Nevertheless, it makes sense for somebody as skilled as him. He, however, evaded details of what he was doing before joining college despite the fact that it was still catching up with him. If you have a chance, do the right thing as the past sometimes have a way of catching up with the future.
