CLOUD DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS Cloud database management systems (CDBMS) refer to technological approaches which deliver computing services to end users. This paper analyses the various parameters of the system which are applied in the development stages for the systems. The elements and models which are utilised in the system must be determined before the implementation to enhance user satisfaction with the application being utilised. Various requirements are discussed and identified through the research. Discussions of the parameters, including the characteristic of the system, have also been presented within the context of this research report. Introduction Cloud database management system (CDBMS) can be described as a system which delivers computing as a service. The approach enables the sharing of information and resources between various devices over a common network. While the most common network utilised in cloud computing remains the internet, other networks which are not internet based can also be utilised in enhancing communication between devices (Dikaiakos et al. 2009). The application of the system can be undertaken through purchasing access to the system or running a system independently. The system is commonly managed and maintained through a cloud database provider. Statement of problem The development of a CDBMS requires consideration of different factors, which commonly influence the functioning of the system. The system consists of two fundamental components which must be effective considered and analysed in the development of a system. The structural setting of a CDBMS presents a fundamental challenge to the developers in determining the database model which the developer will be utilising. The architectural design of the systems becomes determined through consideration of the data and deployment models for the system (Rochwerger et al. 2009). The fundamental development problem becomes the integration of the two basic aspects of the system, in seeking to ensure effective functioning of the system. Purpose of the study The purpose for undertaking this study is determination of the different factors that must be considered during the development of a database system. These systems ensure individuals can share information and resources through the utilisation of a cloud database and different devices. Significance of the study The study is significant to the various software engineers involved in the development of database system using different models. The study will enable the individuals to understand the parameters of CDBMS which must be considered for effective functioning of the system upon implementation. Research questions The study will seek to answer the following questions What are the various data and deployment models which can be utilised in the implementation of a CDBMS What is the best approach for implementing the CDBMS system which ensures capacity for modification Literature review Cloud computing describes an highly effective network which can be accessed through different technological devices (Armbrust et al. 2010). Many of these networks are developed through the utilisation of simple programmes which enable access from different devices for efficiency. CDBMS on the other hand refers to a database system which utilised the cloud computing technology in enabling users to access information within the database. The development of these database systems must be focused on delivering the requirements of the target market. Fundamental changes within the computing industry have created highly efficient systems which are applied in the development in undertaking common responsibilities (Buyya et al. 2008). The utilisation of cloud computing technology has immensely transformed the interaction between different devices which people might use to perform daily responsibilities (Zhou 2012). The utilisation of different technological devices to access information remains the fundamental significance of the cloud computing technology and the major advantage. This can be identified as the reason for the definition of these services as being increasingly effective. Accessing the service occurs from different locations and through the utilisation of different devices. The communication becomes increasingly enhanced through the cloud computing technology. The systems are commonly managed from remote locations, while information can be gathered and provided anytime (Pearson et al. 2009). This enhances the safety of the database systems through protecting them from malicious damage. Meeting the user requirements remain the fundamental purpose during the development phase of many CDBMS. The requirements must become accurately assessed to ensure they meet the specifications of the user in terms of efficacy and accessibility of the services. These systems are commonly utilised within organisations which undertake their operations form remote locations and seek effective information management system (Abadi 2009). The utilisation of CDBMS presents a perfect solution to the database management challenges arising from enhancing accessibility to the systems from remote locations. This enable the efficiency of the organisations to become improved as resource management becomes increasingly enhanced through CDBMS Methodology The research is an exploratory research which seeks to identify the approaches which could be best applied in the development of CDBMS. This research design remains significant in ensuring information gained through the research can be utilised in making informed decisions. The fundamental reason the adopting this research design remains the capability for the research to provide information which can help developer to make decisions. The research design enables one to become fully informed about the phenomenon being investigated. The research design enables an individual to gain insight and familiarity to the topic being researched (Creswell 2013). The research will be undertaken on material written by other researchers in seeking to enhance the knowledge upon the topic. Data collection was undertaken through online archival research which enabled collection of information regarding the models utilised in the development of CDBMS. Data analysis was undertaken based on the models identified from the research activities. Findings There are different approaches which can be utilised in the deployment of a cloud database management system within an organisation. These models can enable the developer to consider different parameters which might be required for the functioning of the system being implemented. Running of a database on cloud commonly utilises two models which can be identified as virtual machine image and database as a service (DBaaS). Where these approaches cannot be adopted a management approach for the database can also be utilised. The cloud provider manages the database and all the related applications for the owners of the database. Characteristics of the CDBMS The fundamental characteristic of a cloud system which can be utilised in by end users effectively includes the following features. Rapid elasticity Ubiquitous access to the database network On-demand self-service Pay per use Resource pooling which is location independent. Discussions Virtual machine image deployment model for CDBMS enables the cloud users to be able to utilise the cloud machine for a limited duration of time. This is commonly purchased as a service which enables the user to access the database until the available credit purchased runs out (Cooper et al. 2010). The users commonly utilise images of the machine which enable access to the database through different devices, which a user may decide to use. A database which does not utilise a machine is commonly said to launch cloud database as a service since there is not physical machine required. This becomes known as the DBaaS. The installation and maintenance of the database when utilising this model remain responsibilities which are undertaken by the providers (Curino et al. 2011). This remains an easier deployment model as it enable the owners to have limited maintenance challenges as these are responsibilities of the service providers. The users also pay per the level of usage. Characteristics of the systems CDBMS systems commonly present similar characteristic which can be generalised for he different models available within the industry (Özsu & Valduriez 2011). On-demand self-service enables the users to access the information from different locations and when the user requires the information. This defines the capabilities for human interaction with the machines in provision of information. Location independent resource pooling remains a characteristic which enables all the users to access the same database with different resources assigned to each user Pay per use provides a description of the services utilised by the user for given period of time. This information is utilised in the development of bill for the user The characteristic of ubiquitous access to the network enable the accessing of the database through the utilisation of different devices. The access to the service recognises different devices and the services are delivered as required. Rapid elasticity enables the user to determine the accessibility of the information which becomes a determinant of the commitment through high availability of the services. Conclusion The development of a CDBMS commonly requires consideration of different parameters which define the various characteristics of the system. Understanding the systems becomes fundamental in seeking to implement a system which meet the user requirements. Effective analysis of the models being utilised in the development is essential in developing systems which can function effectively and efficiently. Despite the model of system adopted by a developer, the fundamental characteristics of the system remain similar within many settings. These characteristics define the efficiency of the system in terms of providing satisfaction to the different stakeholders of the system. System accessibility and flexibility remains the fundamental requirements which provide user satisfaction with the system, since the fundamental reason for utilising the system remains access to a database of information which can enable sharing of resources.
