Networks are basically a collection of computers linked by cable or other media as a result they can contribute to information and resources with each other (Nash, 2000). This report presents detailed overview of the implementation of a wireless network for home computers. This network will provide the facility of communication among different systems through the wireless technology and devoid of problem of wiring in the house. The basic purpose of this research is to provide a basic method for networking of three systems through a wireless link. I will use a step based approach regarding the development and establishment of the wireless network. This report is like a development manual that provides a step based network system implementation approach. Why wireless network for house Wireless network that transmits data through air or space devoid of any physical link has appeared as a significant substitute to tethered transmission channels for instance twisted wire, coaxial cable, and fiber optics (Laudon & Laudon, 1999). There are following advantages concerning the establishment of the wireless network at home (networking, 2009): The accomplishment of the wireless networking is uncomplicated as well as affordable. This network can be established within a matter of hours. This network can be developed and implemented through a trouble-free way. The home based wireless network presents superior speed of data transfer and operations. The home based wireless network offers commanding and secure security regarding data management. This network is less expensive as compared to other technologies Main Working facilities There are different types of the activities we can perform through this network these can be: (Tanenbaum, 2002) The sharing of Internet facility through a single connection Files access to all systems Files management to all systems Sharing of printer, camera. Installation is trouble-free. We have the main facility of sharing files and folders throughout the network. Home wireless network Establishment In this section I will present the detailed analysis of the overall establishment of the wireless home based network. We can use this wireless network for the variety of tasks. Below I will present the important steps regarding the establishment of the wireless home network. Operating system The establishment of the home wireless network for connecting 3 computers will require Windows XP. Here we also require the Service Pack 2 of Windows XP. The need of the Service Pack 2 is not complementary but its incorporation makes things much simple. The basic reason behind Service Pack-2 utilization is the greater protection against the viruses/ worms, hackers as well as additional Internet intruders (Network?, 2009). Deciding Wireless Devices and Equipment The initial point to build and wireless network is to outline a list of equipment that we need for the wireless network development. Here we have to judge the important equipment and access its need. The best place to select and purchase home network wireless technology is the online technology site. These websites offers most excellent technology solutions with best combinations of the software and implementation technology. A few of them I have mentioned in the Appendix. Selecting Wireless technology The selection of the appropriate technology for the wireless networking is really essential. The implementation of the equipment and system depends upon appropriate technology which we have to implement. The most popular technologies are given below (Network?, 2009): 802.11g. 802.11a. 802.11b. In the above given network technologies we have to select the most excellent technology for the overall wireless system handling. Here we have to consider the aspects of the compatibility, ease of use, effective cost, and better support. Through a comprehensive analysis I have got that 802.11g is the most excellent technology for the wireless home network implementation. 802.11g wireless technology offers outstanding performance as well as is well-matched with approximately whole the things (wireless devices) (Northrup, 2009). Wireless Network Equipment We will require following equipment for establishment of the wireless network (Network?, 2009): 3 Computers Built-in wireless networking support Wireless network adapter Wireless router Connectors Faction of wireless network router The wireless network router transfers the signals approaching across other computer systems or Internet link into a wireless signal that is broadcasted to the all system located in the area. This router works as a hub for the distribution of the data and information to the all nearby systems. The next main task of the router is to work like a main communication point for the data sharing and access and collaboration (networking, 2009). Figure 1 wireless network router Source (Wireless-network, 2006) Faction of wireless network adapter The main task of the wireless network adapters is to connect the system with the wireless router through a remote link (wireless connection). Some of the new systems are coming with the characteristic of built in network adaptor, but we can purchase and attach it directly to a system (Network?, 2009). Figure 2 Basic Model of wireless network Image Source: (Northrup, 2009) Connecting wireless router In this step of the wireless internet connection establishment initially we have to cut off the Internet connation temporarily. At this step we have to initially locate our DSL or cable modem as well as we also have to disconnect (unplug) it. This will turn off the internet link to our systems (Network?, 2009). In the next step we have to link our wireless router to our modem. In this step we have to make sure that our modem is still linked directly to the Internet. After this we have to link the entire wireless adaptors to systems. In this process our computer will wirelessly attach to our router, and the router will transmit communications in the course of our modem to the Internet (networking, 2009). Connecting router to modem In this step we will link the wireless router to our system modem. The wireless router ports are labeled with different types of images those seem special on our router. Here we can take additional information about the router by studding the documentation that arrived with our wireless router and wireless tools for additional assistance (Fuller, 2009). Here for connecting the router we will unplug the network cable from our systems that is located at the back of these systems. Then we have to plug this cable port that on the wireless router and labeled with the LAN, WAN, WLAN or Internet options. Then we have Plug the cable of the network that came with router into our modem. The other end will be plugged to the internet connection through the WLAN, WAN or Internet ports on our wireless router (Fuller, 2009). In all this process we will link all the wireless adopters to the systems. Then we have to link the internet connection to the wireless router. After that we have to turn on the DSL modem. The next step will involve the turning on the wireless router. At this point the indicator lights for the Internet, WLAN or WAN will turn on our wireless router. This will indicate the success regarding the establishment of the wireless connection to the modem (Wireless-network, 2006). Figure 3 Indicator lights for the Internet Source: (Northrup, 2009) Configuring wireless router In this step we will configure our wireless router. For this purpose we need to make sure that our wireless router manual or documentation is available and then we have to check that to set our wireless router. Here we will plug our wireless router into one of our systems/computers to install or configure it. Through utilizing some of the accessible cable from our router or computer modem, after that we will require configuring 3 things (Home-Network, 2009): a) Wireless network name b) Configuring the WPA or (Wi-Fi protected Access) c) Then we have to establish the administrative password Connect to computers In lot of systems there is no support for the wireless link management here we will make use of the wireless adaptor that is linked to the system through the USB port. After that we will place the wireless antenna on top of our three systems (Wireless-network, 2006). The Windows XP Service Pack 2 will automatically recognize the freshly linked wireless adapter, and well as can prompt us regarding the insertion of the CD that came with the adapter. After the completion of the wireless link configuration wizard we will be connected to main wireless router that will allow communication with other system (Home-Network, 2009). Figure 4 Wireless link established, Image Source: (Northrup, 2009) Conclusion Every business no matter what is the nature of business, how small; uses computers to manage bookkeeping, track inventory, and store documents. When the size of business or number of computers increases the networking computers turns out to be beneficial. In this report I have presented the detailed overview of the setting up a home wireless network. In this report I have tried to present the establishment and configuration of the network in an easy way. This process of the network configuration will be easy to work with. References 1. Fuller, T.
